Musician's hats

I was unfortunate to have a bartending gig down on 2nd St, working for the Schillings (of Beverly Hills Supper Club inferno infamy), back around 1981. The good thing was Jimmy McGary played Friday happy hour.

A year or so later we lived in the same Mt Adams building as the owner of Cory's (who drove a huge finned, faded blue convertible De Ville we called "The Jazz Mobile>). Corey's is where Jimmy and his trio/quartet played quite frequently. Magic Nights for a late twenties college student and his wife!

That is sooo cool! FYI, I called the number listed for Jimmys son Sean & left a message inquiring 'bout his Dad's CD. . . waiting on a call back.
Also, is there still a rib joint on the North Side called Ribbem & Blues? Used to stop in there when in town on business (maybe early 90's?) They always seemed to have open mic with AMAZING sax players dropping in to solo for 1/2 hr or so. . . was great!

Only slightly off topic: Been reading everything I can find 'bout Batsakes Hat Shop. All this talk has me thinking. . .Music goes with hats. . . Hats just lead to more music. . . Gus borders on being a national treasure. . . I'm just east of Columbus. . . I should wander down some nice spring day to order a custom and take in some of the Cinci music scene. It all seems so clear LoL!

Ribbem & Blues

Don't remember it. Can't find it in web search.

Gus borders on being a national treasure. . . I'm just east of Columbus. . . I should wander down some nice spring day to order a custom and take in some of the Cinci music scene.

Uh, duh, yeah. When I decided this past summer to join the Hat Tribe I told my wife I was going to get a hat from Gus. The man is 84, so I gave her the spiel of maybe it's now or never. My thought now is "I've got one...which comes before two."

Searched for it, but didn't find it in the thread already, so I figured to mention Jerry Garcia's Captain Trips top hat that he wore in 1966 and 1967.

Turns out that under Jerry's (or some hippie co-conspirator's) hand-painting is an 1883 Dunlap & Co. creation.

In December, 2014 Christie's auction house sold it for $116,592. Not too shabby.

Burbank's, in Sharonville, use to have a "Ribbem and Blues" room at the restaurant. Gary Burbank is pretty musically connected in Cincy. Perhaps that's the place.

That makes sense. When @JazzHat said "North side" I was thinking "Northside", a neighborhood across 75 from Clifton, on Hamilton Ave. Lot of restaurants there and a place where a blues club might be.

Place was built as a Mexican restaurant, Acapulco y Los Arcos. Odd location... Easy to see, tricky to find.

Bill Graham, Bob. He was a promoter who started out in the '60s San Francisco music scene. Died in the same helicopter crash that killed Stevie Ray Vaughan in '91.

Thx Fruno. I know who he was but never saw a pic of him. I did see Humble Pie at the Filmore East though.
I believe they opened up one night for Derek and the Domino's when Clapton recorded "Live at the Filmore East." What I can remember of that evening...

I was born too late. I'd give a kidney to have been able to see shows like that at that venue.

Actually saw the Pie thrice after they reformed (twice in bars) and Steve Marriott's All-Stars once.
