I first saw them at Farm Aid in Indy in 1990. It was evident as soon as they hit the stage the were a Big Rock Band. They did, I think three tunes and were great. I saw them again, maybe a year or so later here in Dayton. It was a very good show, and Slash impressed me as having a great depth of musical knowledge - as evidenced by how he played as much as what he played.
I've been to ~300 arena rock type shows, and countless smaller venue shows; it's easier to tell you who I haven't seen than who I have. When you see Rock Stars, you know it. When I saw GnR, they were definitely Rock Stars.
