So long Leon Redbone. Enjoy your soiree with the blues folks in your new adventure.

My neighborhood saw yet another early 1900's inspired musician passing yesterday, the great harmonica player Tony Glover.

A sad day for the live music I love. I will cherish their music by listening to their recordings. Too few recordings IMO.

Best to all those who enjoy the early acoustic blues/jazz music. Eric -

I was really blown away by this guy last week. Aaron Lee Tasjan. I hadn’t heard of him before, and caught his set by accident. But I think he’s the whole package. His recordings are great, but they don’t really show his ability to solo and seriously rock a venue.
We talked hats briefly, and his was made for him by lone hawk hats, with an embroidered image of his own eye on the crown. I’m unclear as to whether that company made the actual hat or just the embroidery.

Yes, that’s an electric single neck 12 string he said his friend made for him, and he made it sound incredible.

Was that, by any chance, at the Royal Grove Scott? I had many nights I'll never remember in that wonderful place.
Wasn't that on Cornhusker Hwy on the way to the airport in Lincoln? What was the name of the place out on West O St at the flashing light at Emerald City, had the huge dance floor & pool tables?

The Grove was, and still is I believe, out on Cornhusker Hwy. The other joint sounds a lot like Merle's Food & Drink on West O which is another great joint that provided me with many somewhat fuzzy, but fond memories. I also spent a lot of quality time at a smoky little piano bar called Cliff's. Martinis, fedoras, silk ties, and beautiful women. It was the 70's, I was young, and everything was possible.

Me too. I think Merle's became Betty's Place or maybe that was yet another one. I used to go out there & play a lot of pool. I remember a piano bar downtown in a basement off the sidewalk but not sure what the name was. And a place in the basement of a strip mall off Hwy 2 across from the prison. Good times!

Ha, how about that. It wasn't at the Grove but I have been there. It was a place that is closed down now and I don't remember what it was called then. A small place we were about 20 feet from the stage and we were at the back of the room. I don't know why Mel played there it was so small.

I do remember Merle's but I was never in there. Spent quite a bit of time at the Armadillo and Tucker Inn in the 80's. They were down on South 9th - 10th St.
