Motivate me!!!!

It's raining, and I've got a load of washing in the machine.
And a soggy moggy who gets bored and causes havoc when he's stuck indoors because of rain.

But worse, much worse, is that I've got 15 buttonholes to hand sew on a commissioned project. Tried thinking of the money, well, the lady is a friend on a fixed income of not-much, so that's not going to work. Tried thinking of her boy's happy face when he sees it, that's not a go-er either. Tried loud music.... worked for a while....

Come on Loungers, what gets YOU through a task you really, really, can't be bothered to do?

...heh...you mean, other than procrastinating to the point that i have no time left? my mother tells me that "pressure makes diamonds". lol

otherwise, i usually treat myself to something once i've accomplished a huge task, like ice cream or a movie. sometimes it's also a motivator during the time that i'm supposed to be working hard, like with final exams...

I recently transcribed a handwritten manuscript that was the most shocking heap of inarticulate crud i've ever had the questionable pleasure of reading. That's another £2.50, i say at the end of each page.

I shouldn't laugh, but.... lol at the description.

The Phantom Menace that is the cat - aka Da Pawz, as he styles himself these days being a teenage gangsta cat and a source of constant shame to his parents - is presently trying to open my sewing machine cabinet. It will keep him busy for an hour or so, and then he'll go to sleep on my posh silk dress. Fed the cat (who didn't need feeding, but...) and now I've just remembered that I need some bread. I don't really, but it's another excuse to get out of the house....

Good ideas though. I'm thinking of the money, and at this end of the month it's helping me get in the right frame of mind....

.. but first, I think I'll take Sweetfrancaise's advice and procrastinate like heck!!! lol

She has a wet cat who's bored to tears and is tearing her place apart because he can't go outside. This can include activities as follows but is not limited to: tearing the curtains, ruining the couch, eating food, eating more food, eating your food, eating food left out on the counter for dinner, sitting in clean laundry, clawing the new rug, running around in circles, running over your work, running under your feet, meowing, mewoing at the wall, meowing at space, meowing at the ceiling, and of course, playing with your thread while you are trying to complete those 15 buttonholes. Had a cat or two.

I usually try to keep some cash sitting around in the expense-account; usually what I'll do is "make a deal with myself" that once I finish whatever it is, I'll go buy myself some book or whatever that I've been drooling over, or another booster-box of (GEEK ALERT!) miniatures.

Just suggesting that some possible "self-bribery" might work for you; or, it might not--it really does require a lot of motivation to resist the temptation to cheat...

Short deadlines....

I tend to suffer from "BSO syndrome" (Bright Shiny Objects), so I can feel your pain.

I had to finish a workbook, and was so sick of the formatting and other stuff that I wanted to scream. I tried focusing on the money, and was arguing that there wasn't enough money in the world to warrant finishing the task.

...but I digress. What got me through it all was setting short deadlines for myself....an hour, half hour, end of the chapter, etc.

For you it might be simply gathering all your materials together, committing to a single buttonhole, or whatever.

I usually find that inertia will take over at some point.

Good luck...I generally prefer a fire and hot buttered rum on a rainy day (must be why I live where I live)

15 buttonholes to the good, J's outfit is now crated up and ready to go so there will be one happy young man in the wilds of Essex this week!

Buttonholes are grim, hand sewing buttonholes is worse.

There seems to be a horrible continuity to this thread.... the cat has just returned from his wanderings this morning, soaking wet through...and looking for some villainy to be on with.

And him indoors bought me that book he was talking about in the Observation Lounge (I think) - "The Golden Age of Couture 1947-1957" - to treat me for all that hard work! :eusa_clap
