I very much appreciate this feature in a jacket as well. Maybe it’s to keep cost down by using less leather?

maybe on the source jackets they make repro from since they are based from either off the rack jackets, catalogue order, or military wartime jacket all these jacket do think about cost saving, and then modern repro probably just being faithful to the original design since the consumers also want it that way... but if a jacket is going to be a daily jacket and not so repro oriented, adding that extra panel bellow the neck and along the hem works for me.
