I was just musing on the significance of FL, and I started wondering: What's the most interesting and/or unexpected thing you've learned from the Fedora Lounge, especially you under 30 folks?

Well, I'm not under 30, but my biggest surprise is that there *are* so many under-30s here. When I was under 30 myself, I was the only person I knew my age with any interest or awareness of anything before 1980, let alone anything of the Era. So if it's a trend among the younger set, I approve!

I guess what I've learned is that I'm not the only one under 30.

In fact, I find it shocking (in a good way) that I'm not the youngest person here to wear a fedora or listen to phonograph records!

I find it slightly shocking that there's not a whole lot of 1920s love in here :(

At least there's quite a bit of 1930s love, which I prefer over the 20s by a millimeter.

What have I learned?

Well, there's that major revelation about vintage suits that dare not speak its name... the fact that bad capacitors can set a radio on fire... everything covered over here... that a single insignificant post can ruin an ENTIRE week and send me on a bout of utter misery... and the fact that a certain lounger struck me as my future self, if I had access to all sorts of vintage goodies.

P.S.
I do love the 20's, but I can't afford it.

Hey, man, I'll have you know I dress like DICK TRACY!

(OK, not really, although I do wear a trenchcoat and fedora when the need arises.)

I've learned (before the discussion of politics was banned from the Lounge) that Americans, in general, seem to be a lot more passionate about politics than your average Aussie. Over here, unless you're a politician or an aspiring politician, the attitude is that all politicians are tarred with the same brush, and that no matter who you actually vote for, you pretty much distrust them all equally. Typical Aussie discussion of politics:

Johnno: "Who'd you vote for, Dave?"
Dave: "Bloody Labour. Whaddabout you, mate?"
Johnno: "Bloody Liberal. They're both as bad as one another. I reckoned
maybe Howard was the best of a bad bunch."
Dave: "Ya think so?"
Johnno: "Dunno. 'Spose. Doesn't matter. Whoever gets in's just gonna line
their own nest."
Dave. "Yeah. Too bloody right, mate."

So you can imagine that the heated discussions that used to take place in the Observation Lounge would be pretty rare in Oz! Lol

Ironically, the trenchcoat and fedora garb could resemble a whole bunch of people, from Dick Tracy to Inspector Gadget, to Humphrey Bogart, to just some random guy from the 30's.

Well, I'm not under 30 but was amazed to find so many people who have vintage "everything" collections. You name it and they have it!:)

I'm also not under 30, and I'm amazed at all the young people here, and as Twitch will said, "they have everything, collection", it may be due to sizes, I can never find anything in my suit, hat coat whatever size, I keep trying to drop weight and hope for the best in vintage. Early 1940's :)
I do hope Wildroot returns, as a young fella, I learned a great deal from him and his collection, grateful Wildroot where ever you are :)

Well as an under 30, I learned that there is a collective of gals who like to dress, sew and look like their parents/grandparents. Ive always been into that. So knowing Im not alone in that respect was nice :)

Oh, and there are boys who LIKE the look

I was surprised to see anyone from Iowa here. (I'm a transplant from Ames, myself.)

I was also surprised that so many relatively normal males cared about vintage civilian clothes, and that any female since about, oh, V-J Day had ever overhauled a tube radio.
