Modern patterns that look vintage

Can anyone help me by suggesting modern patterns for dresses that have a vintage look? Its not always easy to obtain vintage patterns in NZ so Im looking at modern patterns now and even tried my hand at tailoring my own I have two patterns here, one with the bodice I wanted and one with the skirt, I resized as they are far to big for me... started sewing lastnight... Another Option

I don't know if any of you Ladies on the Lounge have tried this but a friend of mine had lots of good things to say about this book. http://www.amazon.com/Patterns-Finished-Clothes-Re-Creating-Love/dp/0806948752/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1296954079&sr=8-1 Patterns from Finished Clothes that You Love. A friend of mine has used this book to make some clothes for herself from vintage clothes. It is nice because it tells you how to do it without having to take it apart. I personally have not used it because I don't consider myself an experienced enough sewer to do this yet (my friend who has used it her Mom is a taylor). I mentions this because it looks like you are playing around with some tayloring on your blog so it looks like this could be another option for making clothes for yourself.

I think you don't really need a book to do that, only a tracing wheel (I hope that's the correct English term )
Just lay the garment you want to copy on a large enough piece of paper, trace the seamlines and add seam allowance.

I used that method to sew a copy of my favourite (vintage-inspired) dress and it worked really well

I just bought this pattern and am working on the teal colored dress design. The teal and the pink ones look 20s style with the lower waist and knee length skirt and the orange one looks 60s-ish, very Audrey Hepburn. I'm not sure if they ship to New Zealand but this pattern is on sale now.

They do ship to New Zealand, and very quickly, but it's not cheap

Incidentally, if you look on TradeMe (local auction site for this side of the world) you'll be able to find that particular one for sale right now.

I've got that one in my stash -- in fact I was looking at it tonight wondering if I should give it a go! Ended up cutting out the tissue for Simplicity 3673 instead, but I need to make major alterations to the bodice which will require compensatory alterations to the skirt, so it has been put away again until tomorrow. Stupid big boobs getting in the way and making everything awkward!!

:lol: Im the opposite and have to take things in! My first vintage dress I made was a bigger size because the shop I got the pattern from didnt have it in a smaller size so I thought what the heck and bought the bigger size.
