It's all milans for me this season - my panamas have been rotated out of use (I have 2 cheapies and a Paul's which has shrunk out of fit). I like their hand, snappiness and durability.

One of mine is actually synthetic, tho I don't know what material is used. It's a little shinier and slicker than my other 3.

Biltmore Giorgio Cellini "South Beach"

Here are the others. All 4 are nonvintage.

Dobbs "Bellagio"

Stetson "Soho"

This last may not be the traditional milan weave. It's tight but somewhat ridgy and has no silky hand.

Love the color of that one Johnny.....would like to see the rest of your straws as well. Are they vintage and are they for sale?

I agree with this. That straw you posted looks really nice. If you have any in the 7 to 7 1/8 range...

Lefty,

The Cav is my favorite. I think it's the same model as in the ad. The Cav has a much finer (thinner ?) straw weave than the Portis. It is clearly a much nicer hat. However, it needs some restoration work.

As I stated before, this hat is stiff and shiny, I sparkles in the sunlight which is why I don't wear it. It is a good looking hat indoors.

GWD, that ribbon is fantastic. Whats the story with the shine?

It's whatever they sprayed on the hat to make it stiff. This is one of the very first hats I bought, this one and the Dobbs, Coronado. I had no idea what I was looking for at that time. It's a decent looking hat and it looks okay on me. I just never wear it because it's so stinking shiny! I've been thinking about dipping it in coleman fuel just for a few seconds to see what happens.

I agree the shine is too much, but it is a sharp hat beside that, what about spraying it with a matte clearcoat spray?[huh]

I dunno, any more spray on this thing and it may crack from being too stiff!

OHHHH, yep I didn't think about it already being so stiff. Plan B: you could wear the hat with shorts, brown socks, and flip-flops and noone will notice the shiny hat.

And GWD, don't force me to go to Plan C:D

Looks identical...

GWD - This particular hat looks identical to your first hat....

To answer your question... None of my hats are new. What do you consider "vintage"?

The rest of my straws are hit-or-miss. My best is the Size 7 Panama that went unsold on the auction.

Hmmm. Rainbow-ish ribbon, glittery hat, stiff finish?
I thought GWD was a family man. ;)

Why, I have no idea what you could be implying. I think I'm going hunting tomorrow, then I'm guna work on my car while I drink a few beers, then I'm going to sit in front of the T.V. and watch sports in my underwear. (Belch)

Is this where we start the argument about whether turning left is a sport?
