Looks like you prefer the late '40s - early '50s. Sort of a mid-to-mid decade. What attracts you to it?
Actually, although I certainly like men's clothing styles from the 1945-55 period and also Bepop jazz, that period has its share of problems. Joseph McCarthy, nuclear proliferation and the Korean War come to mind.

When it comes to elements of popular culture other than men's apparel, I'd go earlier. I like the 1935-45 period for film (Marx Brothers, Thin Man) and music (Django Reinhardt).

It is interesting how this thread reinforces what I believe you mentioned, Marc, in an earlier thread. What we think of as decades of popular culture really run mid-decade to mid-decade. What we think of as the "60s" was really 1965-75, etc.

Hard for me to tell. Looks like it could be a mixture of period styles. Are there more photos of it?

my guess

Correct me if I'm wrong:

Shirt:
- cufflinks, probably double cuffs
- wide collar
- blue or maybe black stripes on white

Jacket:
- medium to light grey, could have lighter grey stripes, but I'm not sure
- large armholes
- padded shoulders, though not drastically
- three button SB
- medium narrow to narrow lapels
- rather high lower lapel end
- rather high gorge
- medium-wide sleeves
- longish

Tie:
- thick
- Windsor (?)

Boutonni?®re:
- yellow carnation (?)
- medium-sized

Waistcoat:
- six-button
- no lapels

Trousers:
- cuffs (medium)
- high waist ? (They might look higher than they might be a) because of the waistcoat, b) because he wears them high, c) because the jacket is long, and d) because he's raising his left shoulder and arm.)
- creased
- two (?) pleats
- tad baggy

Haircut:
- late-eighties

Tan:
- yip

Mien:
- well…

Shoes:
- black non-brogue Oxfords with a bit of a heel (? shoes are hardly visible)

So, my guess is 1992.

The suit was made in 2004 by Jon Green Custom Clothing of New York. I love the trousers and vest but I'm not sure about the jacket. This photo is the only image that I've seen of his work.

Jon Greene is a friend of my mother's. I have several custom ties that I got from him years ago. Beautiful ties.
