And not exactly history, as such…:

Man, Marcus, those are some great uniforms and photos! Have you got any German in you? I noticed that some other posts of you featured uniforms from the Fatherland.

Actually, as far as I know...not a drop! My mom was born in Jalisco Mexico and my father's people are from VA/TN, so who knows where they came from way back up the line. The German stuff just happened to be what grabbed my attention.

Well behind the front lines!
P51, I love the Colonial Viper. I would love to see one that could actually fly.
I’ve been lucky as far as sci-fi goes to be in the right places at the right times. Here’s a few more, for those who might be interested.

Me and Aaron Douglas who played “The Chief” on Galactica:

And with some other folks:

And I’m the kid in uniform at the wheel of (my Dad’s) cannon, to the left:

Me (to the right) at a cowboy action shooting event, in my 1880s/90s Captain uniform:

I also have a complete “Rough Rider” (Theodore Roosevelt’s outfit that went up San Juan Hill) Captain’s uniform for the Spanish-American War era, I need to get photos of that.

Rare to see Army cammies like than in re-enacting.

It is my understanding that the Army issued cammies to US troops in Europe, but discontinued the uniform. It seems it resembled the German uniform too much, and GIs were being shot by mistake. It is nice to see something different than your average BOB or Pvt Ryan uniform.

That's right. There were actually two sets of camouflage uniforms the Army made, one was the "Jungle suit" which were coveralls and the other was a two-piece jacket and pants. The coveralls were hated while the two-piece uniform was quite successful, but unfortunately it was never mentioned to the other units at the time that US soldiers were testing out new uniforms!

Only a handful of units were issued them, most notably the 41st Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Armored, and a few were also issued out to members of the 29th and 2nd Divisions. A few different units in the Pacific were also issued them, but photographic evidence is very scant.

Here is a picture of the coveralls (they are originals):

I have seen a couple of them attributed to the Army in the PTO, one possibly being from a unit in Bougainville (37th ID?), but it is rare to see them.

I've seen photos of tankers wearing them (maybe stateside??) as well as other infantry guys next to barracks and such, but it is really hard to tell from some of the ETO photos if they are in fact coveralls or 2 pieces, as the differences are minute and usually hidden under a bunch of other gear.
