Seems Austin Texas now has a law:

I wish my city had such an ordinance. Years ago, my neighbors across the street tripled the size of their house, planning to take in foster children. They got a divorce instead. The house has had a string of renters ever since. A few blocks away in Denver, somebody scraped a house and put up a triplex whose units are for sale for $550,000 each. (This is in a neighborhood of two-bedroom bungalows worth about $150,000.) Last time I looked, it was still empty. Now that the days of easy credit are over, people will have to make do with cheaper housing. The McMansions may be unsalable.
