"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

No Beatles? No Stones? RIOT!!!

I'm really not liking the idea of having no mention of the British Invasion so far in this season. Especially seeing as (as a major stones fan) it's the number one thing I was looking forward to not just this season, but ever since the show started.

I was kinda guiltily looking forward to hearing Don, Betty, Sally, Pete, Roger & Joan react (both favorably & unfavorably) to the arrival of those "Longhairs from London & Liverpool" & the changes they bring to society, the buying public, & the havoc they wreak by way of ro screaming, crying, fainting, sighing teenage youths.

Now Im bummed knowing that short of "Satisfaction" 's release in 1965 (Next Season?) the only mention of the Stones will either have to do with their drug bust in '67 or the horror that was Altamont. (If the show gets that far that is...)

Don mentioned something about getting Sally some Beatle 45s for Xmas. Didnt one of the kids want a drum set as well?
Frankly Im more surprised that Warhol hasnt been mentioned more. After all he was successful on Madison Ave before he hit it big in fine art. It was a great cultural reference for Peggy to realize that the downtown art scene had little regard for commercial art.

Is anyone else getting the feeling that this new season, is extremely lack luster?

Unlike the first 3 seasons, these recent episodes seem to end when it ends. Rather than before, where the episodes would seem to have a slightly unfinished ending, and make you want more?

I hope I make sense, because this season, for a lack of a better word, sucks.

The story doesn't seem as rich as it used to. I guess that's because everyones story has already been told, and now they're starting anew.

Hopefully this Sunday will bring something that will make me want to watch the 2nd airing, right after the first... Only reason I've watched the 2nd airing lately, is because I just had no idea what happened in the episode!

Also, I'm not liking the styling in this season as well. The hair is lazy. The past episode, Pete walks out without his hair made. And the episodes prior to, Harry hasn't done his hair! I liked his hair the best.

Yes!

The only episode I've enjoyed thus far was Don's trip to Southern California. (Then again, the only episode I enjoyed last season was also Don's trip to SoCal.) The relationship between Don and his "first" wife is very well-played and full of depth.

Last night's episode was pretty rich... Don got some of his mojo back, Pete showed some big-boy attitude to Roger (nice generation gap business, never mind the fact that WE know Lucky Strike will sink and Honda will not...), Betty slapping Sally (and both "husbands" just standing there :eusa_doh: ). And as for the ending... well, when the door to that office closed on that little girl, well, yes, I need to know what will come of her! Can we say "daddy issues"? (at least second-generation, too!)

The only thing that bugged me was Don's attitude toward the baby sitter. That seemed WAY out of character. Also, his going on a date on a night he had the kids. That didn't seem to jive with his care in earlier episodes... Of course, the date was really more business than date...

And I LOVE Don's new secretary!! lol

I loathe Betty more and more, but then I feel sorry for her again. It's a deadly cycle, I guess.

And I love the trick they played on the other ad agency. Perfection.

I'm also really surprised that Betty actually agreed to Sally getting some counseling. Maybe the poor kid will get some help now.

Last season was a slow starter, as I have said before here. I'm enjoying it regardless and think they are building things up slowly. I think saying it 'sucks' is bit muchwhen you compare it to the other crap that is on TV at the moment.

Roger's reaction was so typical of the era too. I remember seeing that attitude around a lot as a kid, where friends grandfathers would not buy Japanese products and would bag them out whenever possible...and that was in the 70s...many never ever got over the war, which is not surprising at all.

I'm wondering aif something 'real' is going to develop for Don and the Dr. A healthy relationship for him for once.

I thought that too...they had a genuine moment, and we know Don does not have many of those.

Yeah, he needs a woman that is her own person and independent to shake him him up. he would understand how to deal with his issues too possibly, being a Dr.

I felt bad seeing Sally tossed into a four day a week therapy session when it's her parents who need the counseling.
Betty didn't have the decency to bring her daughter to the appointment. She had the maid deliver Sally as if she were a piece of laundry being dropped off for a clean and press.

Hahaha the hair matters! They always got really accurate past-teen but still youthful styles for then. Things are building slowly and the styling is decaying, definitely not as rich.

My sister had a thing for Illya Kuryakin as well but I don't believe she ever expressed it like Sally did. At least not in the family room.:eek:

Oh, those two need counseling FOR SURE, but maybe Sally can salvage what's left of her childhood! ;)

And the maid looked like Sally was on her way to jail or something.

I cringed at Roger's attitude toward the Japanese, but I'm sure, as others have noted, that it was typical of many during that era.

Emotions run high when it comes to war. Their was whole generations of people from the UK who never trusted Germany, and their are still WW II vets that I know of who still hate the Japanese. Some scars never fully heal.

I was really glad to see some of the humor come back in this episode. Punking the competition into blowing the budget on a commercial then telling Honda to take a hike really got me interested again. I liked how the whole team played to look like they were doing a top secret commercial. Glad to have some fun back!
