hi all,

I'm looking to get an MA-1 jacket, with a budget of about 100 pounds (including second hand and vintage items). I don't care if it's millitary or civilian, just that it's well made, not going to break instantly like some of the cheap repros and looks the part (close to original fit, though a longer civilian fit would be fine too) in navy or burgundy (though I know that burgundy is not an original color, it's still one I associate with the jacket due to the color being popular for flight jackets in the punk scene). Any recommendations for what to look for, brands that are good/to avoid, and how to make sure that what I'm getting is legit and not a poor quality knockoff?

Thanks!

The Bronson M-a1 is good value and well made, not available in blue or burgundy but their B-15c is available in navy blue and is very similar.

I came across vintage MA-1 jackets when I was doing some research on repro sizing. Thought I post them here, Skyline MIL-J-8279C MA-1 size Medium 24" P2P, 21" back length before the knits, C and C zipper.

Schott has a very nice one in black, brown, navy and sage @ $168 usd… slightly, but not much more than 100£.

I recently bought one in black, and the quality is first rate.

A few years ago I had an Alpha Industries MA-1, which was nice, but the sizing always bothered me. It was short in the sleeves and jacket length, and bulky everywhere else.

The Schott ticks all the boxes, and the fit is spot on. I’m 6’, 183lbs, and 42” chest—for reference. Jacket is size L.

That sort of fit is of course accurate to the original/vintage jackets. Not much good for people over 6 feet in height.

Anyways, I'm glad the Schott works for you. Looks like a really good fit in your photos!

This is why Buzz Rickson's added a "Long" model for the William Gibson jackets, because Gibson himself is 6'4" making standard MA-1 length unwearably short on him.
