I couldn't resist .
NB: Just thought I'd mention that the artist, Robert Crumb, was one of the first people I ever heard of who dressed completely in vintage clothes, and he still does. He also amassed one of the world's finest private collections of early jazz recordings and did a number of fine portraits of those musicians. Still alive and causing trouble.

I recall a few posts of M.C. Gannon Hat Co. clients posting up rough drafts. I found them interesting and intriguing. In that vein I would like to share an upcoming hat I have commissioned from Mr.Gannon. I hope you find interest or inspiration, either positive/negative with this post. Thanks in advance for reading this lengthly post.

My interest has been piqued by the many gorgeous hats posted on this thread featuring the whiskey beaver felt. That felt is visually attractive and fills a need on my hat rack. Love the rich color. It appears both a rich carmel and a cool deep brown with hints in different posts. My inside thoughts are "I could easily wear that hat." The featured hats have had matching ribbons and that dynamite copper ribbon. Love the whiskey hats. Truly I am a realist and know that I can not own every color felt as much as I dream that would be appealing. Whiskey...hmmmm...love it and need to go for it! Interestingly I am not a whiskey beverage drinker. It has been less than a handful of occasions the past 10 years that I have sampled a whiskey or bourbon beverage. I just love the deep aged color and smell.

More details - I am thinking that whiskey with a contrast ribbon and binding may allow the hat more easily paired with my current clothing choices. My cool weather jackets have been in cool color shades, while my warm weather jackets/outerware do touch into the warm shades. I have been headed into using the same charcoal mid ribbon features like my last hats. The charcoal features makes it easier for me to pair the hat with a greater variety of clothing. I acknowledge that it may only work in my mind. I wear it with a variety and enjoy it - thereby it works, for me. To date no disparaging comments.

The contrasting ribbon/binding and wind cord can be bold and jarring to the eye. Even more risky is the contrast between warm and cool shades. I am seeming the colors and sense the risk is low.

Michael, like my some of my other commissioned hats has sent a rough draft picture. Does the picture help - kind off for me. I have a clear image of the hat put together, but really need the hatter - Mr. Gannon, to put the details together and say it works. The artists thumbs-up gives me the push to say YES GO FOR IT. Pic is below.

Like others I am anxious to see the outcome. Cart blanche was given to Michael to use the ribbon size and binding size of his choice given the ribbons mostly match. Also it is a priority for me to have a matching wind cord. I use them frequently around the lake. Functional, but I guess they can look goofy to non-hat wearers. Often I get questions as to the string on my hat when the dogs and I are out for walks. I get it as it looks different.

Like most of you I am anxious, but not needy. I do have hats on my hat tree that I enjoy wearing. But there is an excitement and expectation of a "new hat day." The anticipation of the hat arriving via USPS is enjoyable. I see it via the on-line tracking feature and enjoy seeing it find it' way to me. New hat day - always sweet. New hat day is coming for me I am truly excited to open the box, push back the plastic protector, remove the hat, put it on and find a mirror to see my reflection in the hat. Dreams become reality in that moment. It is a distinct memory.

I am sure most of you reading this have experienced much of the same as I have typed above. No new news, other than the individual choices I and the others sharing their rough drafts.

I hope you all have a new hat day coming and appreciate your reading this long post. Best, Eric -

I think your rather unusual choice of a charcoal ribbon contrasting with the whiskey felt is OUTSTANDING! I'd not have thought to try it, but it looks great.

Makers Mark used to be really good bourbon , Glen Levit (sp) , too , in the scotch category . Straight , puts hair on your chest . Love Whiskey (felt) , Charcoal filtered (ribbon) , and charred barrels , makes perfect sense to me , and looks great .

Eric. very nice in my view. I have a Penneys Marathon that is a dark brown with a charcoal to gun metal grey color and I like it quite a bit. I'm thinking it will work really well with the whisky felt as well.

The jacket is a brown herringbone pattern and the shirt is a light peach color.
