First trip of the year to the Root Beer Stande. She wanted a gander at the menu, too.

My beloved Greta Cat departed this earth just before 6am this morning. Very sudden in the end. She was a little old lady of fourteen, but only showed any sign of anything being wrong in the last few hours. Slipped away very gently in my arms. Raised her from a kitten of seven and a half weeks old. Now she's reunited with her litter-sister, Marlene, who died tragically young of kidney failure in 2016.

Condolences. Fourteen years is a long time.

Thank-you, yes. It's not a bad lifespan for a cat. Early seventies in human terms, apparently. I had dared to hope she'd have three or four years yet, but not to be. For her sake, perhaps better; unlike her sister, who adored human attention, Greta wasn't the most peopley of cats, and she'd have hated regular vet visits and pills. Marlene used to eat her kidney meds out of my hand, but you're only that lucky once in a lifetime with these things...

I'm so sorry for your loss, Edward.

So sorry Edward.
Hard to put in words the piece of our soul that leaves with them, but it does.
I lost my 14 yo Shepherd a couple months ago. I feel your loss. They had good long runs with us. We were blessed.

Thank-you both. Yes, it's tough when they go.... the only downside of a shorter-lived species companion, but that's the way of it. Fourteen glorious years wasn't so bad a run, just such a terrible, sudden shock at the end - no warning at all until about seven hours before she passed. Still, quick and easy for her, and I could be there, so it could have been worse. Two weeks later we'd have been on holiday and there no sign whatever of any problem; she'd have died at home alone and been found by a sitter. I'm so glad she didn't have to face that. Died in my arms, with the dog's nose pressed to her tail. I'd rather she was still here, but she had a good end.
