this piece is interesting

has the stars in the liner crest which you wouldn't see all that much in a mid to late 50s hat ... but all the other markings of a 50s hat ... particularly post '52...
my guess would be this hat is from the mid to late 50s sometime
nice piece that looks great on you

Yes, the baseball caps will take up valuable vintage felt room in the closet, mine have faded away. I agree with Moon about the dating on that nice looking hat. There are a number of threads here on the lounge that have dating information, I have read them many times. You will enjoy them.

Hi,

Unfortunately I live in Brazil and buying hats from the US is a complete nightmare.

I would ike to purchase a Stratton Straw S-44DB, the same used by Yellowstone rangers. Size 7 7/8. With the the USNPS leather hatband, exacly as the images below.

Some stores dont ship to BR, some asks 60% more than others, some are completely impractical.

Is there a ranger around?

I was formerly a park ranger. Though we used the black straw S40DB. I was with PA DCNR and not National Park Service.
The band may be difficult. It's something you may not be able to purchase without credentials

Yes, I did. By email. Not much response though. And other 10 websites. Quite difficult to buy this hat. Hatband seems impossible.

Hmm. There's one on ebay right now complete with the hat band, but about double what you would pay directly from Stratton. Stratton would sell you the hat, you would just have to contact them about shipping outside the US. Or if you have a friend or relative in the US.

There's a place called the Arrowhead Store. A reference to the NPS hat emblem. But they only sell to employees (and volunteers) It's a bit drastic but if you wanted to work at a National Park as a volunteer for a season they would probably give you one. Plus, how cool would it be to be able to say you got the hat by working a season at Yellowstone, or Gettysburg?

The lady in that story was from Argentina, and became a US Park Ranger

Don't give up!

Hello all - I have tried to find a relevant information (threads) regarding hat band replacement; but, not found one where to buy the material. So here it goes.

I just found out that my Eli (a dog) teared off the hat band of my akubra campdraft :-/ I put it on the sofa and took a shower; and only found out...

I am just wondering where I would buy akubra hat band replacement; Since I am living in Seoul Korea, finding a shop is not an option (threre is not one). So, my only option is buying a hat band online (either the US or AU), and stitch it to the hat by myself. I wouldn't mind regular hat band (such as thick ones). Without one, the hat looks too flat... I have tried amazon, and google found no place to offer good hat bands.

My hat is fawn color, so I need a color match, too. Suggestion?
I bought it from hatsdirect. But, it does not offer any replacement.

Thanks for reading this!

added.
I just found out this in Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Gamboa-Standard-Panama-Hat-Band/dp/B007L2HNVE Would light brown color go along with it? Thoght I don't think so, this may be my last option?

I would suggest searching Etsy for the right kind of ribbon, namely a cotton-rayon blend straight edged grosgrain, and making a new one yourself. You would then have the choice to go with a replica of the original, or any width, bow style and color you desire. There are tons of photos of awesome bands and bows here on this forum from which to draw inspiration.

I believe any of our hatters would make you a ribbon that you will have to sew on.Bond and Alley Kat come to mind immediately.

Greetings I was wondering if anyone knew the era of this Stetson I have.
It used to say "Royal De Luxe Stetson" on the black sweatband.
From the research I have done it seems black sweatbands were 1960's and later. Could it have been a replacement sweatband? There is no plastic on the liner either.

Measurements

Brim - 2 1/4"

Top to Bottom (inside) - 9"

Side to Side (inside) - 6 5/8"

Crown top to bottom (outside) - 4 3/4"

Circumference (outside) - 25"

It's confusing dating these Stetsons. I bought this one years back on ebay and the seller said it was from the 1940's. From the research I have done the liner and the style doesn't seem to match up with the 1960's or later.

There is no size tag or price tag unfortunately under the sweatband anywhere.
Also there is remnants of gold or silver around the letters of Royal Stetson when held up to the light

There are always hats that defy dating.Given that it used to be common to have a favorite cleaned, blocked and sweats/liners replaced as needed. It appears you may have one of those.

narrowing a ballpark date down is relatively easy with Stetsons compared to some other manufacturers
