Can't seem to find any info on here specifically about sharing tailors information and reviews/opinion, so thought it would be a good thread.

If there is one if someone could point me to it, that would be great.

I use Ramon Tailoring (http://www.ramontailoring.co.uk/) for alterations, and though a little pricey haven't let me down yet and always deliver what you ask for, even if it is the second/third time.

They also have a bespoke side called Hidalgo Brothers, they seem to have a nice range of fabric, check them out via the link above.

that's because very few people on here (myself included) can afford to go bespoke. or are you talking more specifically about alterations tailors ?
the London Lounge is a forum dedicated to modern/ classic bespoke and they have reviews of London tailors.

London bespoke tends to be about twice as high as north of England bespoke, so my advice to anyone thinking of or saving up for bespoke would be to go for somewhere up north. There's a King & Allen tailors just around the corner from where I work (just outside Manchester) but their bespoke prices are so suspiciously cheap that I have doubts about what their quality will be like.

However, it would be good to have a thread comparing how well modern tailors can make period-accurate suits for those who do want to go down that route.

So what we need is a 'Show us your reproductions' thread, so that people can post photos of reproductions of period clothing (or does it already exist, but I just haven't seen it yet?)

King and Allen were the folks who, as I recall, successfully fought down the Saville Row in court, establishing a legal right for themselves to refer to suits that are really only made to measure from a standard pattern as "bespoke". I'm not sniffy about M2M - it can be a great way to get a better fit than off the rack - but I do lament the broadening and distortion of the term "bespoke". So don't think of K&A as offering a true bespoke service (because they don't), but compare their prices to m2m from the likes of A Suit That Fits and so on, and they're about standard for that (i.e. just a little more than OTR at the likes of Marksies or Next).

I think there used to be a dedicated Magnoli thread, but I've not seen anything broader than that. A lot of folks here have Magnoli stuff. I've seen one or two and been impressed with them. The main problem people seem to have is if the measurements go wrong - always a danger when you're working at a distance, I imagine. I've seen a few Booksters, though I don't think they're so much reproduction as in a classic style. Nice, though. I also hear good things about Rocachas in Kensington. I've seen some of their stuff in use, and it does look good.

All seem interesting, but maybe I did just mean, 'where do you go to get your stuff tailored to fit, or altered' they guy I use as I said is good, but maybe a bit conventional for my taste, I wouldn't mind finding a tailor with a bit of flare.

Try Hussain Tailors on Hanbury Street. take your own cloth and a pair of trousers to be reproduced and he'll do them pretty good for £35.

I've had several reproductions of 30s trousers made there.

He also does good alterations. Not really jackets, though. He's a trousers and waistcoats man.

Do you have photographs of the copies you had made? I would be very interested to see them. I might just have to give him some business.

thats interesting, I'll have to look into him, some photos would be great, I'm a short-one so any 40's cuts make be look completely un-proportioned, but the styles are always nice, if i could get him to cuts me some with a slimmer leg, for £35 that would be a steal.

thanks

I'll post some comparison pictures when I get back to the UK (August). I had him do a pair of trousers in linen, and they are very nice.

I will say that he's not perfect, and very unfriendly. He has particular trouble getting pleats facing the right way, and I think I'm eventually (along with another friend who uses him) getting him trained in the ways of how to cut higher waists. And his buttons are dreadful (I always replace them with vintage ones). But, what can one really expect at the price point.

Also, take your own fabric.

You need to organise a mass trip of us down there and oversee what we all get..... Bound to be some commission you could negotiate with him.....

King and Allan are at the bottom of any pecking order - MTM (being a most accurate description of their offering) or bespoke.
