Morning all!

Did this to my Cockpit G1 because I felt that the original bakelite buttons were too small...

-Replaced mil-spec bakelite buttons with larger and thicker buffalo horn buttons. The button hole easily accomodates a larger size button
-Button backed with a leather disc for added security and longevity
-Buttons sewn on with button hole yarn which is really thick and strong

Please check the photos:

Real horn button. Larger, thicker (and nicer) than the original button to the right.

The button is backed with a little horsehide leather disc for added strength and protection

The new button easily goes through the button hole. I don't know why all G1 buttons have to be this small...

Much better...the dark browm ripples match the leather perfectly..

The thread looks like garden string so that thing isn't going anywere in a hurry either.

Perhaps the original buttons were small to avoid snagging within the cockpit?
Nice mod. Did you manage to use the existing holes in the leather?

whaddya keep in those pockets anyway jan?

Cell phone. Can't carry it in my pants or the map pocket of the jacket. It has to be in one of the outside pockets. So I actually use the pockets on a G1 or A2.

Of course!! I wouldn't have done it if this wasn't possible. I even kept the original stitch holes in the pocket lining. I'm totally picky when it comes to seams, stitch holes, thread etc.

I have a weak spot for little things and details....

To quote Sherlock Holmes: "It is, of course, a trifle, but there is nothing so important as trifles."
