What are the advantages/disadvantages of lined vs. unlined felt hats?
I assume unlined would be cooler in warm weather and lined would be
warmer in cold weather. Any other?

Lined hats also help keep the interior felt cleaner as the liner is a barrier between any hair oil, or hair "product" that might transfer to the hat itself. I find they also make the hat look more "finished". They also provide an easy way to give some branding to the hat as the hat makers crest is often prominently displayed on the liner.

I prefer lined. I do wish, however, that white wasn't the standard. always ends up with greasy marks from my shaved head on it. Even have a blood stain on the inside of my Campdraft DLX. Black or other dark colour would be so much more practical.

I may be hallucinating, but my felt fedoras seem to fit and feel better after the liners are removed.

With temperatures in the triple digits for several months every year, I have a tendency to remove hat liners if I'm going to wear the hat often in warmer weather. Some are too nice to mess with, like my customs, so they stay in. I don't think I've ever had a cowboy hat with a liner in it for more than a few days. Once they get soaked with rain, the liner can come loose and just droops down on your head all day. I don't wear any hair goop, so it's not a matter of stains for me, just comfort. Frank

I second this. I think a black liner also looks really classy.
