Okay - I've decided that I like my brim up in the front and down in the back. I find that I can get a nice swoop effect. Does anybody else "go backwards" or am I alone in my madness? :p

For what it's worth, I used to read fiction and also factual narratives by Stewart Edward White, an outdoor writer whose work mostly spanned the 1912 to and 1930's period. I remember photos of his horse packing trips where various members would wear their brims with the front snapped down part of the time, and other photos would have the same hats with brim turned up in front and down in back. I've seen that with wide-brimmed western hats in other old photos. Seems like it was done fairly frequently in the old days, early 20th C and earlier. I've done that with compliant hats...nice to have the wider view at times, and if you have a long head like mine, it just fits better if it is turned up on one end and down on another, whichever!

Actually, your hat looks good on you. Do it! Will help if you are a musician, however...we are known to be mad anyway.

Kid Rock

Google Kid Rock images. The dude always does it that way. He's supposedly an enthusiast, and takes good care of his collection...
I tried it a for a spell, but i just feel like i'm in Run DMC or something. You're in good company however, and it looks good so more power to ya...

FBUARBD

I was wearing my vintage Borsalino Milan straw stingy with FBUARBD (front brim up and rear brim down) one day and my friend asked me if I knew that my hat was on backwards.

I told him that the hat was on right. I was just standing under it the wrong way.

I have a tendency to want everything "squeeky-clean and neat", shirts tucked-in tight, hats impeccable...very "square". Often it's the "messed-up" types that look the coolest, though. To each his preferences, of course: It's the only way!

I think that the fedora put backwards has definitely the bohéme look but in a much more refined way than a baseball cap backwards.

You can see it on artists nowadays who wear a fedora, it is definitely a cool effect.

The only thing your personality must match it - but from the photos it seems it does.

If you like the look - who cares about the rest anyhow.

My thoughts exactly. The FBUARBD looks good on you Steven. My 2 cents...Never let anyone else tell you the proper way to wear your attire when it's your own opinion that matters most.

Wear your brim however you like, but keep the high pinchy part in the front! Anything else just looks dum.

I like to wear my newsy caps backwards now and then, but usually turn them around when I leave the house.

One of the things I love about fedoras and other brimmed hats is their ability to convey the mood or personality of the wearer. I will occasionally flip my brim up in front and down in back, when feeling more kooky than usual. I am definitely a brim up all-around kind of guy more often than not.

Why is the bow on the last photo on the right side of the hat? -- flopped photo, or yet another idiosyncrasy?
Optical illusion, Kabuto - the bow is actually on the left!
