Oh, wow!

Yeah, GBP 400 more.

I ordered my Lightning in June 2025 and paid GBP 1.074 (upcharge for one inside pocket). My income has not increased since then...
As per archive.org, it's been 1200 for a while, at least since October 2024 until February 2nd. Funny enough, it was 1280 before (April 2024).

So it would seem they raised the price by 200 in the last few weeks.

I think that was the price in EUR.

At least, my purchase (GBP 1.074 incl. extra pocket) came to EUR 1.221 as converted by PayPal.

Flattering as it would be, I have no reason to think that the good people at LL gave me a discount of any sort ;))

I bought a black Lewis Leathers racing jacket size 42 off of eBay. It's a beautiful, great quality jacket but it basically equates to a size medium. Definitely a size smaller than I thought it would be. I'm reselling at a pretty big discount - still is new with tags on it. I'll post it on here once I'm allowed.

I also bought a late 70's super Monza off of vinted, which I love- size 46. This one fit but is also smaller than expected. I can't wear a hoodie underneath.

I was not going at it, although I do guess that you might had gotten it on sale, on a different platform (even if that is their physical store) or simply misremembered.

Anyway, if it was 1200 2 (or more) years ago, it might had actually adjusted just to inflation. I initially thought it had climbed from 1000 to 1400 within 6 months and that would be brutal.

That is still my reading:

I placed my order on June 26, 2025 for a Lightning 402 in their blue horsehide with one inside pocket. The total amount came to GBP 1.074,20 or EUR 1.220,94 (both numbers as per the original invoice.).

I ordered via their store website.

The same order is listed as costing GBP 1.450 as of today.

Yep, I think you're right that Zoro was seeing the Euros pricing - I'm sure it was around £1,000-£1,100 when I was looking a couple of months ago. I got a bit of a discount in the shop and paid about £950 for my sheep Dominator just over a year ago.

I'm getting tired of buying and selling other jackets because I don't like the fit as much as my Dominator or Memphis - the only other jackets that seem to be keepers for me are a couple of Aeros - so thought I'd try and get another this year. £1,450 is totally nuts though. They're still adding a £50 for a size 44 and I'm pretty sure they've increased the upcharge for bigger sizes (I'm sure it used to be a flat £50, now it's up to £200 for bigger sizes).

Very, very difficult to justify another jacket at the new price point.

The same jacket in their nice veg tan cow would now come to GBP 1.980.

For this you can buy a plane ticket Frankfurt to JFK, get a hotel near Times Sq., get a Broadway show and a dinner.
Then buy a Perfecto and go back.

We both posted at pretty much the same time. I had a similar thought - it's absurd money. This feels like they're going to try and position themselves in the same bracket as the overpriced Japanese brands. I bet they'll be £2k within three years.

Ouch, yes.... This must be a very recent rise, as I was only looking at the website the other week and a 391 Lightning was £1200 then. I'd almost convinced myself that was viable, but another two ton on top is just too far for me now. Back to the idea of the Goldtop 617, which isn't that far off a Lightning in design. It's a shame, but it can't be cheap maintaining both English manufacture and premises that centrally in London for the retail store, so.

I mean, I've shared the links. You would see exactly the same as I did as it is a saved view of a past website version.

Yes, you’re right of course. Can’t figure that one out.

It’s a close enough match to what I paid in Euros though, so maybe the site image (it’s this right: a snapshot of the site at a given point in the past) gets the currency wrong??

As far as I know it is a dump of its content, as if you did right click and then clicked on Save Website As. You can save a current one of any website just by triggering their "Save this URL in the Wayback Machine".

It shouldn't get the currency wrong, but perhaps you just got it on a sale. Or there was a sale on the specific color you got? Dunno, but at the time these seem like the most plausible option haha

How do they handle VAT? do they take it off for orders from the EU? (Of course, if they did you'd have paid it locally on entry, in theory, unless your parcel somehow slipped the net.)

That´s the solution!

VAT is pre-deducted for oversea´s orders and then re-applied by the national customs office upon re-entry.

I can still order my jacket at EUR 1.385,- , i.e. EUR 150 more than half a year agao.

Thank you, @Edward, turns out, it´s not such a big deal at all.

Interesting. So either they’ve had two smaller bumps in the last twelve months or I got a much bigger reduction than I thought when I bought from the store last February.

You are right; I don´t find it too transparent either.

The website is poorly translated into German, so I mainly browse through the UK page. It would certainly help to directly state that for overseas orders, british VAT will be deducted.
I could (should?) have noticed with the EUR price being lower than the GBP price, but without @Edward nudging me, I would probably not have made a direct comparison.

All good, though. A GBP 100 increase is bad news for someone on the verge of ordering, but it´s not the scandal I thought we had unearthed. :D

It's a £200 rise on full UK retail (including VAT), which appears to have come in within the last three weeks or so. If my ide of 20% is right, the pre-VAT price has risen from GBP960 to GBP1120. I need to start a band and buy all my leathers for stage costumes so I can claim the VAT back. :D
