a bit of advice from all you denimistas wanted here!

Over the years I have seen several Big E Levi items on ebay that appeared old, and were described as genuine vintage, but somehow didn't look "right" to me - something about the look of the denim itself rather than the cut made me uneasy. These were mostly 1953 pattern 507xx jackets. Most of the details seemed right but as far as I could tell from the sellers none had the shirtweight lining under the pocket flap.

All had the number 17 on the back of the buttons so they're clearly not recent LVC.

Several sellers said they'd had them a long time, though none claimed more than about 30 years.

All fetched good money though nothing like I expected - as if the hardcore Levi collectors weren't interested.

There's one on ebay at the moment, at time of wriiting at $305.

Anyone know about these? Are they original Big E items? My suspicion is that they are earlry repro, probably from the 80s.

yep, West Yorkshire, Britain's answer to Texas

All the ones I've seen had that "factory pre-aged" look. Something about the quality of the denim never looks right either, though I realize that sounds silly when all I've seen is photographs. I'd love to handle one, give it the full once over. But not at that price!
