There's some cool vintage stuff on eBay... More a collector's thing, IMO. Not sure I (or many of us) could ever get away with wearing one, though.

There are PLENTY of letterman jackets out there. Same companies that make em for High School and colleges will make you a custom job in any color or fabric you like. First one I ever got was a kimchee affair made for me when I was stationed in Korea, embroidered and all. Fell apart eventually. Plenty out there though like the man said, ebay's a good place to start.

In the early 1980s, levis produced a similar jacket with a red letter 'L' outlined in white.
Here in the UK not that many wearers understood the meaning of American letterman's jackets and the combination of the 'L' outlined in white was applied to a plate on a car as a driver under instruction, ie Learner. I pointed this out jokingly to a friend who wore one of these jackets and he never wore it again.

Back when I was in school, studying cave painting because writing had not been invented yet, every high school in town sent the kids to Golden Bear Sportswear.

I think in those days, before giant corporations dominated the retail landscape, consumers were more likely to turn to local suppliers for specialty items like that. We didn't have a nationwide supplier like Jostens selling us junk jewelry either. We had to shell out big bucks for rings from a local jeweler, who actually made them with real gold and gemstones.

Keep your eyes out for the Taylors Leatherwear Varsity Undercover #VJ1. It's usually available through police uniform vendors, and should be somewhat affordable.

Visit one of your local schools, and ask the athletic department who they order their jackets from. If the police threaten to label you as a pedophile for hanging out at high schools, then there's always the mall. These jackets really are not that hard to find, considering hundreds of thousands of schools across the country have to get them from somewhere.

What's your size? I'll sell you the old Team Glock Pistol Team jacket that I have in my garage. It's vintage........about 20 years old. Black wool, brown leather sleeves, brown leather shirt collar, snaps in the front, Glock patch over left breast, no other markings or embroidery.

Do you really want to wear a jacket with someone else' school, name, and achievements written all over it?

To be honest , that is similar to wearing original military clothing i.e. an original WWII A2 decorated leather jacket, or a uniform with any form of decorations or insignia.
I once saw a guy get into a serious argument at a military display for wearing the uniform of a French Foreign Legionnaire from the Algerian war period(1950s?) with some rather angry old guys who were easily old enough to have been involved in the conflict.

I guess I just don't get it. I can't see wearing insignia that represents something that I had nothing to do with. I suppose there are people who earn their patches, and those who just want them without earning them. You might as well buy some trophies from a garage sale, and tell stories of how you were on a great bowling team, or won a karate tournament when you were 8.

Last year I was tripping over them every week in the thrift shops. This year- not so much.
Here's a sampling of ones I picked up. There are a bunch I didn't buy and some I don't have photos of.

I've got a collared Letterman from the Fifties that I was contemplating selling, a Maroon colour with white leather arms.
If any one fancies buying it, I can post more info' on it, PM me if so.
It'd fit a UK Large.

I recently had a Red and White leather armed Letterman custom made.... there's people selling them on eBay to your design requirements.

I had one made as a reproduction of one worn by the character "Dennis" in the movie "Christine".

I know a few guys who have also done the same.... they reported a similar experience to me.

It would appear that many modern made Lettermans are very heavy but most of all.... very "Puffy".

Vintage ones are a much slimmer fit.

Check out eBay.

EBay UK list almost 4000 items under "Letterman Jacket".

Cheers.
Lee.

I bought a letterman jacket from Stewart&Strauss, this color scheme:
https://jacketshop.com/overstock/jacket/retro-royal-blue-wool-white-leather-letterman-jackets/

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Royal-B...=US_CSA_MC_Outerwear&var=&hash=item2338f8fd1d

This classic pattern (leather strips at shoulders and shirt collar with leather back) seems pretty accurate to vintage models I saw around.

I have another ordinary one, modern cut but this S&S feels way better as construction and materials. You can also personalize them by color scheme as well as front and back patch.

I've got a letterman jacket, or stadium jacket, or varisity jacket, whatever you want to call it, made by Golden Bear. I think they still make some quality ones these days, and I guess they are still made in the good old US of A.

I have a Vanson brand stadium jacket which I enjoy very much. It is made from competition-weight leather, with wool cuffs and waist, and a leather collar. The lining is a plain drill, and will accept a thermal vest available from manufacturer.
