I have posted this picture to the thrift store thread, but now I have a problem with them. I want to get inside to clean them, but I can´t find a way how.
There is nothing like a hinge, so I guess it was never meant to be opened at home, but I don´t want to go to the watchmaker´s. Any advice anyone?

Everything is possible. And since there is no place to put a tool, I guess it shall be unscrewed. However, I would need a mechanical arm to unscrew it

Rolex......

My wife inherited this beautiful Rolex from her Aunt before she passed, some years ago. The battery has stopped since then and we were told by a friend of hers that "Rolex" batteries can be quite expensive, is this true? We don't have any dealers close to us and we'd love to have it appraised. She don't and never has worn it. She actually would like to sell it, but we would like to know what it's worth? [huh] It's in pristine condition, as you can see.....other than no battery.

If anybody knows anything about "Rolex", and maybe can date this watch, or maybe have an idea as to what it might be worth....I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch.

I don't own one myself, however, I have seen one in person and they look spot on, don't cost a fortune and seem very well made. The link to the site above isn't the only place that carries these watches, however, they seem to have the best price. If you go directly to the Circa Watch site, the watches retail I believe for around $139.00. I've seen them on eBay as well, but they still seem to go for about $130.00, +/- $10.00.

Yet from the site you posted. The add for this particular model has gone down since I placed the order, so maybe I got the last one.

Picked this one up today......

A vintage, 14K Yellow Gold, Rodania with an unusual band. I am not sure of the age. I'm guessing late 40's or early 50's. It has wire lugs. Just a neat old watch.

I've wanted a Bond Seamaster since seeing Golden Eye, but then I really wanted the black faced Planet Ocean Craig sported at the beginning of Casino Royale.

Well, the Planet Ocean not only was out of my price range but totally overwhelmed my less than Daniel Craig size wrist.

Well not to be deterred, I found this beauty (and I can add the black rubber Planet Ocean strap at any time!)
On my 40th Birtday, my wife said "go get it".

Your guess seems to be right; I would say late 40's/early 50's too.

The band is beautiful - most people would probably have replaced it with a leather band, good to see that you have not

It's very likely that both the back and the crystal bezel unscrew. If it's too tight and you can't get a grip with your fingers, try putting on a rubber surgical glove (slightly dampen the fingertips to get rid of the powder).

That is a great dive watch from Omega (the 2254.00, I believe); easy to read and I love the sword hands more than the skeleton hands on the Bond Seamaster. And black goes with everything!
Lucky you as this watch is no longer be produced by Omega as they move at expanding their coaxial line of watches.

I like them all for different reasons. I think the Jaeger is the finest watch I own, but I find myself wearing the Rolex more than any because it seems to be the handiest.

I know I only have two wrists but I can't help myself.

Currently I wear a Luminox Navy SEAL-issue dive watch that my parents bought for me when I started my dive training.

I love the rubber strap - my only other watch at the moment has a leather strap that I can't stand to wear because it's so darn uncomfortable, compared to the leather. It's an old Wenger Swiss Army, btw.

I've admired the Bond watches for a long time now... Can't seem to find one that fits either my wrist or budget just yet. The Tissot T-Touch is very nice as well... not vintage at all, but I still like it [huh]

Thanks for the kind remarks. I will probably have to put a leather band on this one, the gold filled band turns me an odd shade of green:rage: . However I plan to keep the other in case I should want to change it back later. I also have another band like this one in a stainless steel that you would be welcome to if you have a need for it, I think it is 19mm.

Luminox Navy Seal II w/ 2 bands depending on what im wearing, Ive got a ACUPAT tactical band that covers the watch face for work, and the original band from the watch (well a newer band, but the orig style) for dressing up. Had this watch for 8 years, its never let me down, even tho now the bezel is worn down and non moving, and the numbers are all gone, its still my daily watch.

I am currently looking for a nice watch, something like this:

Despite the fact I own many much more expensive watches, this is my favorite for a daily use partly because of its tunring bezel I use as a chronometer to know how much time I have to wait untill I arrive when I go somewhere which is at 20 min from my home for exemple.

Those are great watches. The luminous dials are so potent they are rumored to the watch most likely to give you wrist cancer. Seriously, the Seiko 200 meter divers are THE watch to get if night time legibility is a concern. Very handsome watches while very rugged.....amazing value for the price.
