Just arrived (literally).
Vanson Thunderbird in a mid-weight hide, still with tags attached.
Made in the USA. Weighs in at 2.4kgs.
A huge departure from my usual style.
Quilted lining, including the sleeves.
Not sure how I’ll go with this one, but it’s a very well built & beautiful jacket nonetheless.

Simmons Bilt Black Goat J100 café racer up the coast (again!) 2 shots , used already in the "what jacket..." thread (sorry!)
I REALLY like the Simmons Bilt product ( "politics" aside , a lotta water under the bridge there now !) I am getting used to the two way RIRI size 8 zipper , I actually quite like it for opening the bottom of the zipper while riding in the heat !

More zipper talk. 2 way zippers are convenient as all can be! I'm a fan of them myself. I wonder why we don't see it more?

Shame this jacket doesn't work for you. It's beautiful in the Classifieds but it's absolutely stunning in this photo. I'd buy it if you were closer. . .

Well, it might work, it’s just the middle of our summer & its quite a departure from my conservative style.
I’m cool with hanging on to it till the winter & seeing how it all unfolds....
If on the other hand you’d like to work something out.....

Vanson Perforated Comet today , once again down the West Coast Highway by the southern Indian Ocean.
Photo location a tad uninspiring but you get that ! Motorcycle runs you park up where you can snatch a spot !
Why the perforated Vanson today ? 16C on leaving home 8.30AM , with 31C on the return leg at 2PM.
Those wee perforations work well at 50Km/H or above. Perfect at 110Km/H.
On a "cool" day they would indeed be "too much".
( once again apologies as this photo has been posted in the "what jacket" thread already)

made in Pakistan, thin!!!! leather, ykk zippers

Both Vanson and Schott have used YKK branded zippers, i know for a fact that current Vanson zippers are Vanson rebranded YKK (This was said to my by vanson last week), and Schott has done the same thing in the past, the large Schott main zipper was a rebranded YKK for years (and might still be today).

Never had a problem with YKK zips,,the recent issue with the one on my vanson Enfield was due to me being a dick,,lesson learned.
Yet the too small talons & conmar zips on my heavy leather jackets can be a right pain,,I would rather have a reliable zip than one that is period correct. No one has ever said to me “nice zip you have there” :)

For deffo a situation where "size does matter"!
I myself prefer a "chunky" zipper , easier to start if nothing else !
RIRI size 8 a favourite. (On my Eastman Luftwaffe AND my Simmons Bilt offerings). Kept smooth using Zipper lubricant in a "glue stick" dispenser.
My Aero Highwayman the zipper is "weeny" by comparison.

I like zipped sleeves while riding a motorcycle. Saves from looking like "Bibendum" the Michelin man.
Basically just more comfortable on the bike if you are not billowing up on the move.

I mentioned earlier how I had a photo of a shearling motorcycle jacket and it wasn't just one of those modded B-3's or Irvins. This just popped up in one of the FB groups I belong to (and I hope the owner of the photo won't mind) but this is the jacket in question, except that the one I saw had B-3 style leather overlays.
Anyway, I've no clue who was making these but they're extremely cool.

Great style and fit....
vanson-daredevil-dark-maple-bainbridge-front-1-jpg.214019
I have a daredevil. Its a great jacket on the bike. The fit is a bit different through the torso (no real taper) and sleeves are on the slimmer side. The body shape is great for layering but the sleeves limit this. It is an excellent jacket though. One of the few jackets I asked myself if I was cool enough for the first time I put it on. I think it has to do with the zippers on the top of the sleeves and 3 slanted on the front in combo together.
