Cool Idea, until around 2003 I had only ever bought one leather jacket as a new jacket. I have probably bought & then later sold (or donated) 50+ jackets from Thrift, vintage or consingment shops. Sometimes it's just more fun in general. The amount of work I am doing to my current home has precluded me from something like a new Aero, LW or Langlitz order.

The market has really taken off on vintage leathers, especially a D-pocket or Cafe Racer. Plus the real "lack" of anything short of "lambskin" or pleather in malls & department stores anymore, has folks such as us scouring ebay & thrift shops in that hope of finding the needle in the haystack...

Just now found this beast of a belt in a used clothes store for $3. Wish I had just one jacket with belt loops to put it on...

There's a guy on the VLJ forum who found an original A-2 at a Goodwill.

Whenever I go to thrift stores, I'm honestly almost more excited by the women's clothes. Men's style kind of died in the 1980s whereas I could pick out something nifty for a theoretical gal pal from any era.

Not to wear obviously. Most of the men's stuff is junk. Tmi. I did find some MIE Doc Marten brogues a while back for $5, and a nice camel hair coat.

I got to this site via retro thrift shop finds. I remember when you could get mint 1940's-50's hats, suits, blazers and shirts for 50 cents to 2 bucks. It doesn't seem that long ago but it was early to mid 1980's.

There are still good things to find but there's a lot of ugly shit too. I know I've bought some of it.

2 X pairs of Red Wing Iron Rangers in my size, bought one pair for £15 and paid £50 for the other. Ended up selling the second pair for £130 on the bay.....so I'm up!

But in my experience the well is pretty much dry when it comes to finding quality vintage in the charity shops here in the UK.

Pretty much been my story. Folks know they can get $$ or even $$$ for them on ebay, so they avail themselves of the opportunity it seems.

Heck back in 2005 I found a Schott in an old Motorcycle shop that they wanted to "give" away for $90. Sadly, it was a size 38 and I did not have an ebay account set up yet. Had I know about FL or had the ebay going then, I would have bought & flipped it.

Yeah, it's a long time since I've seen anything even remotely interesting in the local charity shops.

what was I saying? A Martin Lane G1 has just appeared in the window of our local cancer research shop ( byres rd ) - size 42, decent condition - £120.......don't know much about these but this is without cotton cuffs - sleeves seems short. Plus they have multiple sheepskin flying jackets. Probs worth a look.

I will take a peek! I guess if they were going to appear in a Glasgow charity shop, it's going to be on Byres Road. Suspect they'll be snapped up.

Byres road ? I lived in Cecil street 1982 until 1984. No "charity" shops then !

Plus that jacket would have been "brand new in Man at C&A" ( Or Marks) haha...

I did buy a Carharrt jacket at a Salvation Army here in Perth Western Australia for $18 AUD

BARGAIN ! Too big for me , but my good friend wore it out on our winter trip down the pub tonight.

you can see how the folks in the chazza shops price them - I searched G1 Martine lane into eBay and one comes up buy now £135........so they price it just under at £120. I wish the volunteers could understand that eBay is not the definitive price guide.

I spotted a NEW Belstaff leather trials type jacket , Tags still on, at a Salvation army thrift 3 K's from my house last year.

They were asking $750 Australian , I thought that was a bit rich , but no negotiation ( rather snotty "volunteer" lady !)

I told them that you could get a bespoke leather jacket "made to measure" at Sinnika leathers locally for less.

No dice as "they had looked it up on eBay" so I did not buy the jacket. I could buy brand new Schott for that !
