Important piece of motorcycle history. Beyond even simply its celebrity ownership... it carries a direct link to the development of the motorcycle helmet. The doctor who treated Lawrence after that accident noted that the fatality was down to cranial injury. His subsequent research led to all British military motorcyclists being issued helmets in ww2. In turn, it also stimulated the development and evolution of the motorcycle helmet as safety equipment, adopted voluntarily in the UK by 80% of riders by the time it was made compulsory in 1973.
