Langlitz Columbia Review

The leather now is 1.2mm, wearing the Vanson with a t-shirt if I scratch my arm with my finger nail I can feel it on my skin through the leather, nothing at all like my old Vanson, of course the hardcore had the quilt liner, I do wear a armor sweatshirt under the new jacket as I personally don't have any trust in the jacket or manufacturer any longer

If you want a pure riding jacket, go with something specialised... Kangaroo leather has the most abrasion resistance even if it is thinner.

I guess I didn't explain completely, what I am looking for. It's not just a ridding jacket I'm looking for, as I will wear it off the bike more than on the bike, I like the heavier leather, like the first Vanson I had, I had a similar style Brooks from the late 80s, my biggest complaint with the Vanson I have now in the x150 medium weight is it seems very fashionable weight leather ( I know it's not ), the langlitz samples I got are about the same as the Vanson, when I got the swatches from Vanson there did not seem to be a huge difference between the competition and the x150, but I was also told by Vanson that the competition weight is not what they use to get, soooo my question is should I take a chance on the langlitz, if they had the heavy weight I would not hesitate ordering it, the medium weight makes me question if I would be satisfied. Don't want to waste their time or mine, just very disappointed with the Vanson I had built

Between the vansons and langlitz, i had an older hardcore and i tried a highwayman. The langlitz medium isnt really the same feel. The langlitz is stiffer while probably the same thickness. The vanson was more pliable and, i guess, spongier. The langlitz just feels stiffer.

Thanks that's what I was looking for, so you are saying the langlitz is stiffer than the hardcore and the highwayman, or just stiffer than the highway man

So back to the LW idea, I was shocked by this: a 60% upcharge for the size If you don't mind, what size would you be looking for? Even a 50 or 54 should only be 15 - 20% I would think...

I'm roughly a 50 tall, funny thing after giving my measurements to langlitz and lw langlitz said my chest not being 50, I would not have to pay for the size 50 and up,,, LW on the other hand said that even though my Belly was larger than my chest ( still not hitting the 50 mark ) the jacket would have to be resized from normal pattern, hence the 60% upcharge

Ouch! Well I do not think you would regret going wiht a Langlitz! And in your talks with them (Benny is who I spoke with) I would think you could request an thick of leather as they have in stock. They do all the cutting and building right there on site.

The vansons were both competition ch. They were both just softer feeling than the langlitz. More supple i guess. The langlitz is just finished different. I spoke with bates a few years ago and the owner said that all of the protection comes from the outer finished layer on a jacket and that thicker leather doesnt necessarily mean more protection because the under layers will wear away faster than the top layer. Their approach is more layers of thinner leather as opposed to just thicker leather. Bates and z custom both do made to measure jackets and can do whatever you want as far as design. Bates did the easy rider and terminator jackets and z does alot of road race gear and the harley davidson and marlboro man jacket that mickey rourke wore. Z did tell me they can do a chp style or cafe style jacket but its not listed in their catalog.

I’m wearing my medium weight cowhide Columbia right this minute. I would say that the leather appears to be almost exactly the same thickness as my Vanson Commando in X150. The Columbia is much softer though which is not surprising considering it has seen much more wear than the Commando.

Going to try and post pictures of the Vanson, it started as the trucker jacket, competition grade not available so it's x150, zipper front with button wind flap, windtight zipper sleeves, cafe style collar, gun pocket, size 52 tall, 2" added to sleeves and body

Sorry for the late post, I got the jacket 3/25/20 it's amazing, fit and quality like nothing I have ever seen before. The thickness of the leather is perfect and I really can't imagine it being any thicker. I feel like it is a second skin that is absolutely amazing to wear.. seems I placed the order just in time. Stay safe everyone I will try to post pictures
