We dropped the kid off with her Grandma today and on the way back, the hubby and I stopped by the USS Texas battleship. I couldn't believe he had never been and as a vintage enthusiast and native Houstonian, I'm disappointed that I had never brought him. While we were in the gift shop I picked up these two gems, which will be what I'm perusing between laundry. View attachment 40606 View attachment 40607

I started painting one hand last night with Cherries in the Snow. But then I decided I was too tired and took it off.

I just wish I felt up to setting my hair and doing my nails and face these days.

I've not done much. I made dinner and cleaned up dishes. I dealt with the remainder of the laundry. I'm currently posting and listening to Herb Alpert. I've been home all afternoon but I'm so sleep-deprived that I'm useless.

Bringing supper to a sick friend tonight. Afterward, a bit of sewing and maybe some knitting. Someone made a DVD of dozens of GI Jive radio shows for me. I downloaded them from the Radiofiles site. Can't wait to hear them. When I get some gumption I'll take a photo of the (nonfunctional) late 1930s Siewart Warner radio I use to listen to them. I put a tiny CD player inside, and a little "book light" behind the dial so it looks lit up. Works really well. I just wish I had the smarts to wire it up to the speaker. That would be really wonderful. Even so: music sounds great coming out of that radio.

Aw, you're a good friend, St. Louis. :)

I'm perusing the web for shoes and stockings, while the Great Gildersleeve movie plays on another laptop, and trying to wait patiently to hear if we will get the house we're hoping to rent. The competition is plenty, so I hope the owner will appreciate the value of a small family.

After I get out of work today (deadline at the end of the day tomorrow, so it will likely be late) I'll go home and eat some dinner. Last night I was also home late and had a hot plate made up in the oven for me, so I've got my fingers crossed for a hot plate tonight.

Hopefully I will get a good hour of play time with my daughter and son, put them to bed, and maybe watch a show off of Amazon Prime with my husband.

Today is "Andrew Wyeth Day" locally, so I'll be superintending the annual Wyeth Day illustrated Lecture tonite at work, after which I'll check and see if the washing I hung out yesterday is dry yet. Given the suffocating humidity punctuated by thundershowers we've been having, I doubt it'll be dry before September. Which is a pain, because I don't have any more pillow cases.

Well, my evening plans have changed -- an equipment problem has me stuck at work possibly well into the early morning hours, and I'm now sitting here monitoring and swearing colorfully at the whole "Digital Cinema" mess. My pillowcases got dry, but now I might not get a chance to enjoy them. Nertz.

I spent yesterday interacting with the public on top of a parade float.

I spent last night bailing water out of an overflowing air-conditioning system at work, so I guess you could call the day a split. Today I spent, first, reading the proverbial riot act to a coworker who decided to pull some attitude when I told him some scheduling changes were coming, and second, eating fried clams at the Lobster Festival with one of the kids. I'm not sure what I'll be doing tonight, but I expect it will involve Alka-Seltzer.

Just did the dishes (hubby made fried chicken) and relaxed outside for awhile; now I'm going to read a book that came in the mail yesterday and probably go to bed early!

I will be relaxing on the couch, alternating between crocheting my dreaded project afghan and reading a book. We just got in from vacation - my favourite cousin halfway across the country got married, and we drove out for it. We got in at 6am today after driving for about 20 hours. The husband and I have been taking turns napping all day, because naturally my daughter isn't tired at all!

Doing some restoration on my latest acquisition of a 1920s velvet cloche hat because I just cannot wait to wear it. The lining needs re-stitching (falling out) and I hope I can get to it before it gets dark. I hate to sew at night. Maybe I can get some time to write some thank you cards that are over due. Will be working late at the computer (again) till at least 8 P.M.

My fella and I will be trying out a new brandy after 9 P.M. I have not used my antique brandy snifters in years so this should be fun.

Old movies for sure.....
