Up for sale is a rare, authentic steerhide late 1940s or early1950s asymmetrical single rider D-Pocket jacket manufactured by Kurland Star Sportswear Co. of Lynn, Massachusetts. This jacket is in good condition with a rich, natural steerhide patina considering it's about 72 years old. The jacket features a distinct D-shaped map pocket on the left torso with an attached snap-closure coin pocket.
Original main silver Talon (made in USA) zipper which functions smoothly. Sleeve zippers say Solo and appear to be original as well. In my research, many American jackets from this era utilized Talon, Comar, or other zippers, but premium or specialty batches occasionally featured imported West German Solo branded zippers during the post-war boom for small accents/sleeves which are characterized by their industrial, boxy pull-tabs and slide exceptionally smooth.
The pocket zippers are made in USA and have the original circular chain style pulls functioning smoothly.
Features & Condition: Heavyweight, thick genuine steerhide leather is soft with zero rot, or cracking. The stitching on the right collar where it meets the lapel has come undone. On the left collar where it connects to the lapel a small area of the stitching is loose as well as at the back left shoulder. There are a few scratches on the sleeves by the elbow and front panels as well as at the shoulders and back panel. There are wear spots at the bottom of the sleeves.
The pocket linings are in good condition. It has an asymmetrical front, d-pocket accents, and integrated half-belt waist with the original buckle. All snaps appear original and function as intended. The original pink/orange diamond-quilted nylon lining is in good condition. There are two small holes in the lining by the upper left shoulder, and the sleeve linings have holes at the bottom of both wrists. The lining has faded on the back panel and there are some loose strings. The corduroy lining around the inside waist band is in good condition. The stitched satin "Styled by Kurland / Star Sportswear" tag is fully intact.
Trying to find information on the company and style was not so easy. I hope my research was accurate if not I apologize
