In Canada we call it a toque or touque. But it goes by many names - knit cap, knit hat, watch cap, beanie, sock hat, ski hat, bobble hat….. you get the idea. The most common winter hat here in Canada but has a long history. I thought we should maybe have a thread dedicated to this ancient headwear. From sailors to military to farmers it has been keeping heads toasty worm for hundreds of years. Lately it has been re-invented as a slouch hat, just a baggier looser fitting version of the classic. Like a beret it is simple enough but can be worn a hundred different ways. Anyone who lives in a cold climate probably has at least one hanging around. Let’s see them.
