Keeper leather jacket and introduction...

Hi,
Just want to introduce myself as I am new to this board (found it via Rivet Head). Looking forward to add to the forum with a Scandinavian view on things.
When it comes to keeper leather jackets, I want to add one that I recently found after much searching. Found it in a thrift store, and it is a Smalandsjackan in goat skin from the late 50's, in amazingly good condition. My grandfather had one and also my father, and now I finally have one that surely will be a keeper for me. I paid about $62 for it, and it was a perfect fit.

Once again, look forward to learn and add to the forum.
Regards

Tranås was the place to go in the old days when looking for leather and fur apparel.
Ahh the times :)

Nice jacket and nice "Guaranteed Real Goat" -label

HoosierDaddy, the Aero Stuart looks exceptional! I really like the fit. Did you have it made custom so it would fit snug or is that how the Stuart fits? Also, nice jacket collection. I've seen several pictures of your jackets including the Bootlegger on the Aero website. Maybe I can get on there when my B3 arrives. Do you have any advice regarding Aero? I ordered a B3 from Amanda about 4 weeks ago. I just gave her my measurements instead of ordering a specific size. I plan on ordering a Teamster next of this deal goes well. I'd like the Teamster to be a somewhat snug fit like your Stuart.

Thanks nabottle
My Stuart wasn't made any trimmer than normal...but I did add sleeve and body length. My best advice for ordering a jacket or coat from Aero is: Make sure that you have your jacket measurements right. Just where you want your sleeve to end and body length. I wear the same standard size in an Aero jacket as most all my other jackets...except for length.
I would think that a Teamster wouldn't 'normally' be as trim as a Stuart since it is a longer coat which may require a looser fit. However...Amanda will work with you and offer good advice concerning your ideas. I suggest trying to work out all customization at the beginning of the order..then sending a friendly email toward the end of the wait to see if your jacket is near production.

My favorite Keeper utilility jacket is my Roughneck/Oil Driller jacket from Cockpit. Thick goatskin and nice pebble grain. Leather is soft and just slightly weathered at the edges. It's by far my most go to jacket!

Thanks for the pictures posted by others! Any chance we could get some action shots? This looks like a serious contender for the Aero long half-belt I've been dreaming of.

In my opinion it is just as nice (actually nicer) than the Aero LHB, if you prefer goatskin over horsehide. It would not be as warm as the standard Aero LHB, but truley a great jacket in my humble opinion. And I do own a Aero Cossack HH jacket, to compare these two quality jackets side by side!

The Cockpit makes nice jackets. I have had a number of them prior to going the custom route. That said, I can't compare them to an Aero or other top maker. They're nice, but not in the same ballpark. For mass-produced jackets, they fit the bill nicely though. Before I had seen an Aero, GW, ELC, etc. I thought those were top-shelf.
If you can get one on-sale, it's a good catch.

Here you go Tom..
For some reason couldn't get pic attached to PM. Actually the Enfield is roomy enough for shirt and insulated vest underneath...and does very well on bike. In fact..it is probably my fav to wear while riding out of all my MC jackets...and I wear it often off the bike since the style is more conservative. Very comfortable.

New "Keeper"

My old favorite "go-to" jacket was my Cockpit Oildriller/Roughneck. But now I have to admit that my Aero Custom Half-Belt(Selkirk)is my new Go-To/Keeper!
