Just saw Pink Martini

The college where I teach brought in the band Pink Martini last night. They were fantastic with their jazz/retro/salsa/mambo feel.

I highly recommend seeing them live. Their lead singer is a cutie who nails a whole lot of languages. Usually, I am not a fan for songs not sung in English (That's Amore being an exception) but the band pulled it off so charmingly and with such pizzazz, I didn't bother me.

Also, pick up their latest release "Hey, Eugene."

A great quote from their website:

“Pink Martini is like a romantic Hollywood musical of the 1940s or 50s – but with a global perspective which is modern,” says founder and artistic director Thomas M. Lauderdale. “We bring melodies and rhythms from different parts of the world together to create something which is new and beautiful.”

I have a friend who is expecting her baby on the 10th, and she and her husband were going to see Pink Martini on Saturday as a "last hurrah" before the baby came. C is a BIG fan. But she realized Saturday AM that the show was Friday night! She was very upset. So if anyone has a chance to go see them, do!!

I loved there version of Que Sara Sara. It is slow and sweet and sad. Dead Like Me used the song very effectively in there series premeire.

Yeah they are a fantastic band there is no doubt, they came to Australia recently and played at the Sydney festival.
Whilst they were here I did an interview on my podcast with the leader of the band Thomas M Lauderdale, you can check it out by heading to my site and clicking on show number 7.

I saw them last night!

Woo hoo! What a great show. :eusa_clap I saw them in Boston at the Opera House. My husband and I had seen them last year, too, and we just love them. Such a great, elegant-yet-playful vibe! I love that they sing in everything from French and Italian to Turkish, Arabic and Croatian. At various points in the show, you feel like you're either in a French cafe, 40s supper club or 50s Cuban dancehall. China Forbes is such a glamour girl, too. Love them.

Imoldfashioned - What did you think of the show?

I have to say that Pink Martini has been a fovourite of mine for many years... and China Forbes is indeed a glamour girl! Another favourite of mine is Vagabond Opera... has anyone seen them or at least heard them? Lesley Kernochan sang Milord the last time I saw them perform... with a voice so like Piaf's that it nearly brought tears to my eyes!

They sang for almost two hours. The best songs from their first three releases and some new ones from CDs four and five (due out in Oct. 2009 and mid-2010).

Fantastic and fun!

I have their album Hang On Little Tomato. China's voice is amazing, and the orchestra is one of the most versatile that I've heard. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see them when they're in the Oklahoma/ Texas area.

Limited Edition Album

I have been a fan of theirs for a long time and have all their albums. I just wish they'd come and play a concert near me sometime. I was pleased to get their latest album 'Slendor In The Grass' recently, and it was the Limited Edition with a gatefold sleeve and a DVD of their concert highlights. Well worth seeking out, and only a buck or two more than the regular album.:eusa_clap
