I posted some information recently from "Fabrikation von Damen- und Herren- Filzhüten, Der Deustchen Hutmacher Zeitung (1933)" but it didn't draw any interest (I hope to eventually complete the rough translation of the book). I also posted information from the same source on "Echter"(Real) Velour production. The Velour finish on the hat you just posted could have taken weeks to complete (in some cases the felt would have to go back through the dying process due to repeated hand wet brushing and mechanical clipping).

When did you post these Steve? I would love to check them out but did not know how far back to go.

I haven't had a chance to translate the entire book. Also the translations are rough but you can get an idea of what is going on.

J. Hückel´s Söhne, Seiden Zylinder, size 58cm, very good condition, probably 1930s. It came from a Czech Republic source. It was sold by K. Landa Brno, Czechoslovakia but the box it came with is from hat factory - warehouse Adolf Lochman Mnichovo Hradiště (Münchengrätz), Czechoslovakia. It's a really nice silk Top Hat with a ribbon / bow that you would see on a soft felt hat which makes sense since JHS was primarily known as a soft and stiff felt hat manufacturer.

+1 to that Josh, and thanks for helping me waste a half hour:)

Steve, what is going on with this sweatband? Is it reeded at the top and the bottom? Very interesting.

Hückel Elastic Melone, black, size 58/59. Great condition and probably dates from the 1930s. No country of orgin on the paper label but made by JHS. A very fine specimen indeed!

Bob, Yes the sweatband has two reeds (one at the top and one at the bottom). This is fairly common with 1930s (maybe older) Austrian and German stiff felts. For example this (German) C. G. Wilke Melone.

Also some photos are missing (for example Garrett's amazing 19th Century JHS Velour) in this thread but present at my site.
