Some additional information.

I looked at the paper label on JHS Flexible Melone and discovered the size (Weite) was marked Point 6 1/4. I also have an older JHS Melone with a Point 4 1/4 on the paper label. I do not believe I have seen Point 1/4 increments used anywhere else. Also no CM size on the paper label in both cases.

With JHS if there is a CM size on the paper label the Point size is always one more than it should be. For example 58 cm should be Point 5 1/2 but JHS would have 6, 58 on the paper label. Exterior sizing labels when available follow convention. Here is an example (both photos are the same hat).

Paper label has Point 6, 58

Exterior size tag has Point 5 1/2, 58cm

1930s G. A. Dunn & Co. Austrian Velour. Turns out it was made by JHS. The liner is not original.

J. Hückel'a Synove Vídeň (J. Hückel´s Söhne Wien) Melone, size 5 3/4 Point, crown 4 1/2 inches, brim 2 1/4 inches, 154 grams. The liner and sweatband wording are in Czech but I believe it's from right around WWI. I really like the lower profile and striking liner / sweatband.

Mike, Very true! I definitely end up looking at them more than wearing them. The attention to detail is usually a touch above what you see in soft felt hats.

Thanks for posting all the photos! I wasn't aware of the Sigma + Seal designation. My JHS Sigma Foulard is missing the liner but the paper label is the same (no mention of "Seal"). Roberts black JHS Sigma also has a the same paper label but the liner only mentions the retailer Maurice L. Rothschild & Company. I am not sure about his brown JHS Sigma. Again I wish this one was in your size!

Thanks, Steve! I looked through the entire German & Austrian Hutmachers thread, looking for the Sigma + Seal designation and I couldn't find anything. Have you seen mention of this in vintage ads or hatting publications? I wish this hat was in my size!! I fully understand how special these Huckel Seal Velours really are. The finish is unlike ANYTHING I have ever felt. Without being corny, its almost magical. I can't even comprehend how a hat company was able to get such an incredible velour finish like that.

Josh, My guess is that the others are Sigma + Seal because the paper labels are the same (Sig. Foulard) with similar finishes. The JHS advertisements I have seen only mention Velour and other finishes but no quality specifics. The pre 40 JHS Sigma - Seal Velours are some of the finest Velours JHS ever produced and JHS produced the finest Velour finishes in the world (this was widely acknowledged). Again I sure wish it was your size!

J. Hückel´s Söhne Flexible Melone, Size 6 1/4 Point, Brim 2 inches, Crown 5 inches, Weight 5.46 oz, Very good condition with original box (missing lid). The liner color is a unique light magenta. Probably from the 1930s maybe the 1920s. The city (Reichenberg) where the shop that sold it was located is now (Liberec) in the Czech Republic.
