They (Johnson) can skive it down either seam or the whole panel. If you are concerned with CXL stiffness go for the milled or tumbled version. Essentially it's mechanical break in at the factory. Same CXL just agitated from the factory. The down side is you don't get that mirror shine CXL finish when you open the box, it'd be more quarter scrotum already.

I would also recommend tumbled CXL. The leather has been given an extra tumbling to break it in and give it much softer finish compared to regular, stiff and shiny CXL.

Based on my experience of Aero's offerings, the difference is clear, both in terms of stiffness and looks.
