Again, we will have to agree to disagree. I wear leather jackets purely for aesthetic reasons, not because I seek the "heaviest, toughest protective piece of (civilian) outerwear." Feel free to revoke my man card yet again.

Super, that's not what I meant at all. You can wear your leather jacket for any reason or in any way you want to - which probably isn't all too different from mine - but the fact remains that leather jackets, the kind we buy here, are extremely tough things.

I usually don't mean any more than I say and I wasn't implying anything other than just that the two horizontal creases do not differentiate from any other sign that the jacket's been worn - or indeed, that it was hanging on a hanger.

Also, some jackets will get the two creases only from wear, depending on ones posture, others from a hanger. Ill shaped or not.

Wrong crease? I don’t see it happen on my LW 4oz HH, probably only for those 2oz fans.

Don't know about 4oz jackets, but it's true that my LW took a long time to crease

My LW which is actually 3.5oz tends to take more time to crease than the other jackets... But on the other hand it takes more time to develop a patina

You started a GREAT thread which both: (1) stimulated interesting discussion and debate; and (2) expanded our individual and collective knowledge base. The diverse and disparate opinions are precisely why the thread is an overwhelming success. The universal agreement threads are far less interesting or informative. Well done PB!!

Kidding aside, what @Superfluous said. I too think this is an awesome and a very informative thread! I've learned something about hangers, even though I doubt I will act on it.

I did an experiment:
Here are 3 hangers with different slopes. The top is my go-to, the second and third came from Target (attached to my kids' shirts.

Here are the results:



I think the middle or bottom fits my jacket better, but i have attached extenders to cover/ fill in the shoulders + some sleeve.
The extenders came from a trade show I attended last year.

I've been anxiously awaiting an Aero Sheene I ordered back in June. I helped assuage some of the anticipation by making a hanger based on my own shoulder measurements so the timing of this particular thread is pretty fortuitous. I hadn't seen the Aero post about their new hangers and the hotly debated creases but I do like the idea of having a hanger that approximates the wearer's shoulders. I carved it out a hunk of redwood that I had lying around and roughed it out to shape with a hatchet before sanding it down. I just received the jacket this Friday and absolutely love it. The only downside is the triple digit weather here in Austin. Overall I think the jacket drapes decently on the hanger but the fold lines from shipping still make it look a little wonky, as you can see below. My hope is that the hanger helps preserve the shape the jacket assumes as I break it in. Thanks for looking!

This hanger looks optimal to me. Anything that mimics human shoulders is better than a thin plastic hanger, imo.

I have to say in 30 years of leather jacket collecting the normal hanger and pipe insulation solution has worked for everything I’ve thrown st it .... from a LW Anj-4 to a late 90’s Aero Vest De Rallye coming in at over 10lb ..... and the solution costs about 2 bucks.

These pictures kinda debunk the whole "suite hangers are the cause of creases"?
It is brand new out of the box and already shows the classic Aero shoulder creases, and the creases running down parallel to the zipper. I think we can safely say that they are not induced by hanging!

Truth. I just rechecked all the photos I have of my jackets, Aero and any other and mostly all had the creases in question, either new or used. Those that didn't have the creases, never got them.

It's got to do with the pattern, not with the hanger.

I did a little experiment today. I own a bunch of hangers from this place:

All my jackets are on their jacket hangers, and all my shirts are on their 19" shirt hangers. All my Aeros have the creases when hanging on these jacket hangers, but my 2 non-Aeros do not. I tried their shirt hangers on my Aeros, and they hang great. The creases disappear. My 2 non Aeros however are a disaster on the shirt hangers. The backs went all concave. So the shirt hangers are superior for the Aeros, not the others. They are too thin imo for heavy jackets, but I tried 2 and 3 hangers per jacket, and that worked great. So I think I'm going to order a bunch of their shirt hangers and double/triple up.
