3)There will never ever come a period again where hat quality even approaches the past. There are simply way too many obstacles (the state of modern manufacturing, the anti-fur crusaders, the total lack of skilled craftsman, the lack of retail outlets for high priced hats, the disposable product mantra, individualism, etc.). The world has changed and there's no going back.

I'm late to this thread, but I'd just like to point you towards Penman Hats for at least one example where the quality is just as good, if not better than vintage hats.

I was speaking on factory made hats capable of supporting the scale necessary for a hat renaissance. There are obviously custom hatters turning out quality hats today, at the rate of a few dozen hats each year.

There are obviously different grades throughout the years (every manufacturer had different model/quality designations) but almost every vintage lid I've encountered - and that number is a thousand or more, easily - has been more desirable.

Modern hatters have talent but let's face it - vintage is where its at and that's why we're all ****ing here to begin with, right?

Yes, it is all about good food. We were blessed with our son when we already had some taste of life and lifee´s experience; perspective so we have chosen for less money and living closer to the earth. Quite a change from white collar to digging manure. Júst half melted digging up & wheelbarrowing 500 kilo of fermented horse dung on two strips in the veggy plot, so my personal aroma is manlyness with earthy manure

The ´Hat Lady´ called earlier this morning that she is coming over (again) this afternoon* so I worked my butt off to have time to shower, ´manicure´, dress and get a not-só-cheap quality vintage hat out matching the not-so-cheap strap of my ditto vintage watch...

* the theory is that she comes to keep me company and help out, but in pratice my appreciation of the company results in éxtra work [huh] because of the desire to be a good host.

OT the issue is only an issue for colléctors. Those who moan about the inferior quality of modern made hats. An issue which could change with increased appreciation for the quality hat. That would in mý eyes be :eusa_clap and I don´t mind one jota paying ´too much´ for the few vintage hats that I am looking to wear with flair. I mean, filling the diesel tank of my car costs 100 Euros nowadays and that is blown out as smelly hot air through the pipe at the back. Why would I winge about 100 Euros more for a hat that will last long enough for my son to inherit??!!

Btw. wear your hat with enough flair and the lady might pay for diner, meaning the extra cost will have been recovered for a good part.

The processed one was Romeo;

Being a primitive type of pig breed, I prepared his skull for the archeology department of the university of Gent, Belgium.
His remembrance thus lives on as he is still referred to as ´Romeo´ as he sits on a cubboard overlooking a class room.
