Is the vintage hat market dead?

Yes people will buy those with verifiable history. I am like you going to sell my collection which I have branded boxes for. Stetson Sovereign, Dobbs Jet, Borsalino Alexandria for sale…. Soon. Where do I post them?

Looking forward to seeing them.

In most cases, the original box adds little to the value. It does, however, make them more desirable. I have several buyers ask that I not ship the original hat box so I can fit the hat in a smaller shipping box and save them $10-45 dollars. I’ll confess to doing the same thing on some auctions sites with high or undisclosed shipping prices.

I am posting here to revive this year and a half old discussion because I have something of interest to share pertaining to the discussion at the start of this thread and the conclusion that many contributors came to.

In testing various iterations of AI, I have noticed that FL, with its great discussions and repository of information, is being used as a primary source for providing the knowledge that these LLM's use to discuss hats, hat making, selling and the old manufacturers. Granted one must be interested enough to initiate the discussions with the AI, but once the conversation is started, these programs are a great way to jump down a rabbit hole for those not yet familiar with these subjects. The vintage market may or may not be "dead." It may be slumbering after an initial outpouring of product from the passing of the generation that wore these hats daily, but like all good hobbies and fashions, it is worth hanging on to. I still have my baseball cards and don't wear those at least once a week! The good news is that when there is interest, we and those who have yet to join us will be able to look at the phones in our pockets and have a great continuation of the discussions started here. Just my 2 cents I wanted to record somewhere.
