is the size 1X a men's XL or womens size XL?

I saw a shirt on ebay listed as a size 1X , I usually wear a man's size XL shirt

is 1X for women's? because I dont usually see a man's shirt marked 1X ?

1X usually connotates a woman's plus size in U.S. sizing. It goes up from there - 2X, 3X. Probably to soften the blow to women having to buy a larger size as it looks better on the tag than XXL or XXXL.

the buttons are sewn on the wearer's right and the hole are on the wearer's left just like the men's shirts I own

maybe the shirt came out of another country and they mark the sizes differently than US men's sizes?
