The flu went around in circles in this home for 5 weeks and for five weeks after the symptoms wouldn't entirely leave me, so I've got a doc appt. in two hours time (which I've waited for, for two weeks) and now I don't feel any symptoms. Booking an appointment which seems entirely pointless because there's usually nothing the GP can do, seems to be the best cure.;)

Next year I want to get the flu shot. If I can get hit by the flu just half as many times as this year, then I'll be happy!

On a positive note; I only had one ear infection.

My bronchitis ended up being walking pneumonia. I really didn't think such a thing existed. Doctor told me to stay in bed. Gladly! Here I am watching old movies and feeling really wacky on codeine-laced cough syrup.

I recently discovered or informed by my sister that Zicam [any form] works well & also Emergen-C, so I keep it in the house all the time, and take the Zicam when I first feel the tinge of sickness.

Plus side would be that Emergen-C works really well as a hangover cure too ;)

Make fun of us, but it does serve as a measure of prevention, even if it isn't 100%. Better than nothing. It also serves as a measure of pollen prevention, for the pollen allergies that are in full season here right now.
As well as flu shots, washing hands and gargling after coming indoors also serve as prevention. Regular exercise will increase your NK (natural killer) cells which will up your immunity. I head a geriatric care facility, so keeping tabs on everyone for prevention of contagious infections are an essential part of my job.

ortega, if it really is the flu--if you test positive with a simple swab test at your drs, if you get started on Rimantadin or Tamiflu or Relenza within 48 hours of the initial fever, the meds work very well. If you're past the 48 hour window, then bed rest and lots of fluids, keeping the room warm and the humidity above 50% are just about all you can do.
Hope you feel better soon.

Not the flu, but I just had an eye procedure done on Friday for a case of occular histoplasmosis. I had an injection of Avastin in my eye. Quite traumatic and I am not up to par as yet.

sorry just went over you. Hope you feel better and welcome to the FL.

I recently had a the flu from hell. Kinda hard to believe you're that sick and can't do much about it.

Mom's remedies: Chicken noodle soup, saltine crackers, ginger ail.

Ex's that works wonders: Ginger tea with lemon and honey.

Mine: Copious use of T-3's. With those you really get so out of it you don't care if you're sick, and the killer headache and body aches just leave by the back door.

Perhaps, but it's a street scene from Seattle during the pandemic of '18. The trolley driver is telling the guy without the mask that he can't ride the trolley without one.

The worst possible timing...

I came down with the flu on Saturday the 28th - while packing to go to Yosemite to sing and party.
Not only did it make it impossible to complete the new dress (I was so spacey I couldn't remember how to hang the skirt!), but I coughed and sneezed and blew my nose for three days of what was supposed to be a gay, mad whirl of cocktails and laughter. And of course, I also had to sing for 4 hours in the middle of it.
I took Wellness capsules, Zicam, Emergen-C, Contac, and my very favorite icky tasting medicine, Creomulsion Cough Syrup (ack) and got through the gig. Barely. I did lose my voice at the end of it all, but at least I was able to do my show.
It was also freezing rain the first two days, finally it snowed on the third day, so in and out of cold/wet to hot/dry, riding around on the shuttle bus to do costume changes...as we had to stay on the opposite side of the valley from where the action was. No car.
This is day 10 and although pretty much symptom free, I still crash and have to take naps.
Hope yours goes better than mine!

I've been battling a severe case of the flu the last few weeks - missed a lot of work, hardly ate at all (lost almost 20 pounds in 3+ weeks), no "adult" beverages of any kind, certainly no stogies...

Mostly on the mend now... ;)

Well, it's not an old-time remedy, but I swear by the influenza vaccine :) I've had the flu once in the past 17 years.

I've been battling death for the past 8 days now. I thought it was a bad cold, but reading this thread I now wonder if it wasn't the flu. It started with fatigue which I thought was just a lack of sleep. The weekend was shot and I took a couple sick days from work. The body temp swings are over with, but I've still got a congested chest and sinus. My toddler was sick yesterday too, so we stayed home together and cuddled on the couch. That's a good remeby right there! He seems okay today though, but my wife is feeling bad, and she's 9 months pregnant. I hope she clears up for delivery....

I wouldn't say on my death bed... but I have fallen victim to the flu and perhaps a concurrent sinus infection. Ugh!

You must have an iron constitution if you aren't praying for death. Get well soon.

Brandy Alexander Cheesecake three times a day, or as directed by your Doctor.
I met a porn actress named Brandy Alexander, but that's beside the point.
I hope you all recover quickly.

The 'flu shot is a crock. Several physician and nurse friends of mine concur. They've explained to me that there's not really anyone to blame for this as is the popular sport. It's just that the suppliers of the vaccine are really playing a guessing game every year either mixing it too strong whereas many people actually wind up contracting flu symptoms from it, or mixing it too weak and making it a useless exercise.

I've never done the 'flu shot thing and have only had one flu in probably eight or ten years. But that one was early last year and in the past two months I've been so grateful that I'm back to good health this year. That ordeal last year was the worst I've felt since I had pneumonia as a kid in Michigan forty years ago.

Best thing I took to keep congestion from doing me in last year; Mucinex!! Very effective over-the-counter medicine. DRINK LOTS OF WATER though.

G'luck!
