Hi, are there any good Irvin jackets books out there telling you about the different makers and the differences between them? I have a few good books on American jackets but want to start on Irvin jackets as well now.
Thanks
Dave

The answer is no. There are few brief bits in Prodgers' RAF and Luftwaffe book, but most of the info is on this forum in the two original Irvin threads. If you have any specific questions about makers I'm happy to help as Irvin jackets are a specific interest of mine.

Andrew, Thank you for your reply, I have read a few of your post and realise you are quite an authority on the Irvin jackets. I have a few ELC jackets a A2, M422a, B10, ANJ4, and a C3 vest, as you can see I like my American jackets but have become very interested in Irvin jackets, I have ordered a Devon Irvin from ELC but I am also on the look out for a genuine Irvin, do you know why the British jackets seem to out last the American jackets much longer?

On the whole Irvins stand the test of time far better than US shearling jackets. Irvins were made from the fleeces of hardy British sheep. Differences in tanning techniques and the cooler British climate may also account for the durability of Irvins compared with USAAF and USN shearlings.

There will not be a good, informative, fantastic book on Irvin jackets, until a certain fellow lounger finds time to sit down and write it.
And we all know who I' m talking about. Right Andrew? :) :) :)
