You are right Mr D!
I think it would look great but it is too big for a hat.
Now if Mike wanted to make more TVA fedoras and this pin {or one like it} was with them... that is another story!

If you knew an engraver, you might be able to get something made up for you. The nice thing is that if you knew your grandad's employee number or anything like that, it could be incorporated into the design.

As late as the 1970s, and maybe a ways into the 1980s, construction workers walked through a gate and placed their 'brass' on the board on the way in and retrieved it when they left. I'm not sure if that is one of those 'brass' tags, but I suspect it is. By 1990 TVA ceased its practice of directly employing craft (union) labor and now contracts for almost all of the craft labor needs (there are still a few hourly employees, but not many).

Pics from TVA archives:

It has taken me a while to get an opportunity to peruse some of TVA's photo archives, but I finally squeezed out an hour and found six that we might appreciate. First, two pics of President Roosevelt visiting Chickamauga Dam near Chattanooga in 1940:

Delurking to confess that I'm fascinated by this thread.

First of all, by the great work done by Mike on the new hat. :eusa_clap It's a dead ringer for the hat my uncle Bill wore in a lot of the photos taken of him back in the late 1930s.

He was a railroad electrician, on the L&N I believe, working out of Cincinnati's art deco Union Terminal. Greatly missed even now, 40 plus years on.

Yet another hat for my Gottagettit list.

The second cool thing about the thread, for me, is that the TVA was right in my neck of the woods when I was a kid. We were always vacationing on TVA lakes come summer. Just last weekend, in fact, one of my old friends from back home spent the weekend camping next to a TVA lake.

So even if they're not strictly hat-related, I'll be enjoying every one of the old TVA photos that John Barrow cares to upload.

Cheers,
Mark

Barrowjh, Great old photos! I'm amused by the fact that everyone didn't change from straw to felt (or vice versa), at the same time. I see an obvious mixture of straws and felts. And a couple of guys didn't get the word about "hard hat" day! Thanks for sharing. :)

:eusa_clap :eusa_clap WOW John thanks! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
There are some great hats in those photos! I even see a nice diamond crease in that first one!
Also Wheeler Dam was in the area that my folks were from, please post more if you think we would like them!

tandmark - welcome. :)

barrowjh - wonderful pictures.

RBH - how come you like the Indy IV hat so much? I'd have thought that front pinch was too tight for your liking. lol
