Took a trip over to Galashiels this morning to pick up my Eton collar sports jumper - lovely bit of clobber, I'll post it later along with a few other items I saw/bought - but this little gem caught my eye: the Aero Majestic.
It's based on a reversible vintage Levi's jacket (not dissimilar to the one on another thread) that's pinned up in the factory. I'll let the pics speak for themselves, though as you'll read from the explanatory blurb below, Ken's pretty pleased with this one:
The Finest Vegetable Tanned Double Faced Goat Suede
Classic 1930’s Hollywood Styling
Available in Dark Sand or Rust
Hookless Gromit Zipper
1930s Repro Looped-Pocket Zipper
Cotton Tartan Lining
To quote the respected The Art of Vintage Leather Jackets blog………..
“1930s suedes were the creme of the fashion product of their day. 1930s suede is quite unique and unlike any I have ever seen. The inside is always the top grain of the hide and the suede side is always a super, super fine nap”
We are immensely proud to announce that the suede described above “Is no longer unique to the 1930s” as we’ve had this suede recreated exactly as it was tanned in the 1930s. It’s been a long haul though, for at least the last 25 years we’ve been trying to find a tannery that could recreate this legendary goat suede, we’ve come close a few times but we wanted perfection, now, finally we’ve managed find a tanner capable of recreating this long lost leather to perfection, 100% so, the weight, the touch, the drape, the appearance and the quality are all identical, it really is the most incredible leather, almost worth the 25 year wait!!
A Suede of this rarity and quality deserves the right jacket, we feel we’ve achieved this goal with our new “Majestic”. While not an exact replica of any particular jacket from the 1930s it’s commensurate with many. We’ve flipped the collar, facing, trim and cuff lining to the top grain leather side of the hide, again typical of the original jackets, we’ve use the highest grade Japanese trimmings, a 1930s Hookless Zipper and looped pocket zipper, Corozo Fish Eye buttons on the cuffs and, as these jackets were invariably lined in a lightweight checked cotton lining, we lined our jacket in Lanark Tartan cotton.
In naming this jacket “The Majestic” we realise we are setting the bar particularly high but, in the words of Aero’s founder ……
“I honestly believe this is the best leather jacket Aero has ever produced”
As collectors know, when a good example of a similar original American Suede Jacket from the 1930s comes upon eBay, the winning bids are regularly in the region of $2000, we believe in 10 or 15 years a good used Aero Majestic will fetch a similar hammer price.
PICS!
