Hi all,
I attended an estate sale this weekend and picked up my first bomber - and Schott - leather jacket in the process.
As I looked over the jacket once I got home, there were a few interesting details that seemed "off." Not implying any sort of fake or fraud, more along the lines of "interesting" and was hoping you all could share some possible insights into the jacket.
1. Probably the most interesting thing about the jacket is the design style and contract number. As far as I can tell, MIL-J-78240 (MS) is not a standard spec for any U.S. military jacket - much less a G-1. The contract number also appears non-existant. Are these fake "details" put in by Schott to make the jacket seem more authentic? Is there another reason they'd use fake details?
2. The zipper seems quite old. Now I think the jacket is probably pre-2009 since it has a Leathercraft Process tag - but the more blocky zipper seems older. I've learned that "ideal" is one of the zipper brands Schott uses off and on, so that doesnt tell me anything specific. Is it possible this is an aftermarket zipper to replace one that broke? Are there other details I should be looking for on the zipper?
3. I can't find a manufacturer tag anywhere on the jacket. I've looked on the inside of sleeves, inside pockets, under the collar, etc, but I can't find one. Certainly possible it was removed or wore down over time. The internal map pocket has a Schott snap button which makes me think it was most likely to be there, but I couldn't find it. Does Schott have a place they typically put their manufacture tags?
Thanks for talking a look at this post and helping me learn more about this jacket!
