This isn't really the site for factory produced jackets like those made by Schott and this is also a site that celebrates very thick leather, either steer or horse and generally Horween produced so you probably won't find too many fans for this jacket here.

I do like some Schott jackets (my favorite jacket is a Schott cafe racer) and I don't appreciate thick leather, so from my perspective this is a solid if unexciting jacket. The cherry isn't to my taste but that's a personal matter. The leather is about 2.5oz which is plenty thick enough for my tastes and similar to the thickness of vintage jackets which were not as solid as today's artisan versions. Check the sizing with Schott.

I personally went with a M-8002 Johnson leathers version of this style which I had made in 2.5oz naked cowhide in black. Cost about the same. If you found this Schott for a good price, great, but there are many old car coats on line for around $100 that would look and perform about the same. A good one was made by Cooper.

With extremely minimal searching on Schott website it looks to be alpha sizing (S, M, L) so they don't have a 40 per say, but if I had to estimate (which you will if you decide to purchase this jacket) I'd say a 40 would be a Medium, being that I wear a 42-44 and am typically a Large. That said, Seb Lucas is correct in saying that you'll get very little feedback from members on this forum regarding off the rack jackets like this. I'm a big Schott fan myself as are many on this forum, but a bit more research should be done on your part or perhaps a more specific question asked if you're looking for more information.

There are too many variables in the question "are they any good"

You own a Johnson M-8002? Can you post some pictures when you get around to it? I ordered this jacket bist a few days ago and would have wished to find some Info about it back then and I am still curious.

Yep, I bought it a few years ago, the first of 3 Johnson Leathers jackets. What can I say? It's a vintage style blazer but well made. I wanted leather I would enjoy wearing so I went with thinner hide than the 3oz the jacket ususally comes in. I also asked for breathable nylon twill lining. This stuff lasts forever. I am 6ft 2 and 185 pounds, the size medium fits well. I chose 26 inch sleeves.

Whoah. I am 5'9", 180 Pounds, also ordered a size M. It'll definitely sit longer on me. :D Thank you for the Picture.

My apologies. It's just that the Schott site does not list them in a medium and none of my emails to them has met with any response. 'Are they any good?' is my way of asking if they're not overpriced, thin nonsense. I doubt that they'd compare that well against my Aeros, but I quite like the style. Just want to make sure that I'm not buying something flimsy (if I do in fact, ever manage to source one).

Schott leather jackets come in different weights, 2.5 oz the lighter one, 3 oz the heavy one (?). They are definitely thicker than pleather jackets from the mall, not flimsy. Aeros FQHH is 3-3.25 oz, the steer 4 oz. So Schott is thinner leather than Aero, but still substancial compared to mall leather jackets.

The 2.5 Schott hide is tough and fairly heavy and perfect for a longer coat. I have a cafe racer in this hide and it beats any mall jacket.

That looks nice. I like the collar quite a bit.

Schott jackets are well made if you dont mind things being a little rough if you go looking for details. The stitchig is very nice, but mine has a few edges that are trimmed badly. The leather is nice, not FQHH or Shinki nice, but very adequat.
One thing to think about is the fit. Schott has a "beer belly" fit. They literally taper outwards from the shoulders down, and tend to have a huge stomach area. Short sleeves to.
I had to have mine tailored, we tapered in the bottom quite a bit. I have to say i don't think they are worth it anymore. Last year they increased their prices a lot, and i think that you can find better value for money considering the current prices.

The Schott jackets I own fit trim (I'm trim) and are superbly well made with 26 inch sleeves. But Schott should look into making more tall fitting jackets. I would buy more of them if they came in longer sizes.

Their tall Perfecto is like 28 inches long. That's a shame. The 70s? CHP jacket I have (my avatar photo) has 26.5 inch sleeves and a 25" back. Close enough. :)

I think that's true of some of the jackets they offer, but not all. The 689, for instance, is a very tapered cut. I have a lean body type and, when I tried one on in my size, the sweep was too short for me to get it zipped.

I'm 5'11," and at 156-159lbs., hardly carry a beer belly. My Schott jackets fit me just fine. My monkey-arms could use just a little more length in the sleeves, but such is life for the fit of most off-the-rack garments. This is not exclusive to Schott. I like 'em!
