The jacket in question is a Brill Bros. G1, with a label that reads 'DSA 100-70-C-0484'.
Questions:
Does this mean it was a C-series jacket made in 1970?
Is it goatskin or cowhide?
How do Brill Bros. stack up in terms of quality?
Thanks in advance!

pjman,
The jacket was indeed made in 1970 but it is not a C series jacket. On the line above the DSA number there is a line that reads MIL-J-7823... The letter immediately following 7823 indicates the series of the jacket. Your jacket is either a D or E series jacket because the series changed from D to E right around that time.
I believe cowhide G-1s did not come along until a bit later than 1970 so your Brill Brothers should be goatskin. From what I have read the Brill Brothers jackets are considered to be fine quality and certainly equivalent to Star Sportswear and other G-1s from that era.

Thanks Peacoat!
Most of what I have learned about G-1's has been from fellow members right here on the lounge. I often find that I am parroting something or other that Atticus Finch posted in the past responding to a similar question or inquiry.

I have two. One is an Irvin B. Foster 1962 model, and the other is a current issue I bought for a friend of mine who outgrew his original issue G-1. It was too small for him, so he gave it back to me.

Love to see pics of them both. Is your current issue Excelled?

Yes, the current issue is Excelled, an E series, I think. It has a SPO 100 prefix. The original owner wrote his name in the label with a magic marker. Makes it hard to read the text.

I forgot, but I also have a LL Bean G-1 (civilian) that is shearling lined. It is a warm jacket.
