Well, try to lean gracefully if you'll fall over otherwise--backward or to one side. Not as you see people leaning on a shopping cart.

:p I guess that did sound pretty stupid. You know I meant though!

Here in London in winter it's actually quite hard to feel you're getting enough sun. I was feeling down a while ago and asked a friend who has just finished studying medicine and she suggested I go on a sunbed

It seemed to work though.

Exactly what I was going to say Ada Veen. In winter I spend all day sitting in a sealed, airconditioned office, not wanting to leave at lunchtime for a walk because it's so cold and windy. And I wonder why I get SAD.

Don't look at the ground. There's nothing interesting down there.

I once had a Marine DI yell at me: "STOP LOOKING AT YOUR FEET! THEY'RE STILL THERE!" lol

(I was at an "educator's workshop" on Parris Island and we were doing a mock drill. I was trying to make sure my feet were in the yellow footprints.)

I don't know how British workplace laws are, but in the US, employers are required to provide you whatever you need to accommodate your medical conditions. My employer has provided me with flicker free full-spectrum flourescent lightbulbs for my office, which really helps with the problem, and they aren't expensive. Or you can get a special full spectrum desk lamp for your office. They are a little pricey, but really do help. I also use full spectrum bulbs at certain places at home, like my bedroom. Not only do they help with the seasonal depression, but they are the best kind of light for doing makeup :)

Oh that's interesting...I don't know about that here, I have never heard of anyone getting special equipment like that. I was thinking about getting a lightbox, but I haven't actually been diagnosed with SAD, (and I hope as a real sufferer, you're not offended that I referred to it as that) I just get really down this time of year, especially towards the end of the winter. I have had problems with depression as a teen, but never saw a doctor or anything, I never felt it was severe enough.

I am hoping to go on a week's sun holiday in April though, not that I spend any time tanning, just relaxing. You get more than enough sun exposure in the shade, I find. I went to Cyprus for a week in September, and instead of coming back tanned, I came back skin-coloured...as opposed to porcelain! lol

As my husband is always reminding me 'be proud of your breasts!':) But seriously - if you take to heart the old saying 'boobs out tummy in' your posture is much improved.

It shows how sad I am that part of the reason I am looking forward to potentially moving to the UK is that I have less reason to worry about being out in the sun, and therefore more chance of being pale.

Oh, I've never officially been diagnosed w/ SAD, but I know I have it!

You should look at Verilux lamps. They're supposedly the best full spectrum lights and should give similar benefits to a light box.
