Immaculate vintage furs

Hello all,

I've had some incredible women's fur coats come into my possession.
I was wondering if anyone knew about furs, or rather the market for them, particularly in the US. Maybe there also some collectors out there.

They're from the 1960s. A specialist in Germany took one look at them and said he'd not seen such perfect specimens in years.

We have:
1. Mink. Dark brown. 3/4 length. with an Arctic Fox collar

2. Mink/Marmot . Brown. knee length. 3/4 length sleeves (classic A-line cut) Made in Paris.

3. Persian Lamb. Black. with sapphire Mink collar (detachable).

All are size 40-42.


Hats:
2 x Arctic Fox caps. Brown
1x Maribou cap. White

All are size approx. 57.

Here in Southern California, the thrift shops near upscale neighborhoods have plenty of them. Well-off people from colder climates migrate here and never put them on again. After their original owners croak, the furs tend to wind up at places like Goodwill.

There's not much of a market for fur in the US, new or used. And vintage fur is problematic in that it usually develops dry rot, no matter how well it's cared for.

The furs have not developed dry rot. As stated, they are in perfect condition.

Did your specialist open up the lining an inspect the backside of the pelts? I had to deal with the furs from my mother's estate and while they were all meticulously kept (at home and in summer storage) and looked to be in perfect condition, a few of the older furs had gone bad. The bad coats were made into teddy bears and given to family members while the good ones were placed with a high-end consignment shop where they languished for over a year before I finally had them made into a bedspread. I hope your luck is better.

Yes, my specialist took all of this into account. He works exclusively with furs. They are his trade. His company is called The Fur House.

I'm not quite sure why you would think I was angry.
I have no idea how much the furs are worth, or if indeed they are worth anything at all. I don't mind if they aren't even worth a penny - they didn't cost me a thing. All I know is what I was told by the specialist and I've no reason to doubt him, given his 20+ years experience in the trade. I just wondered if there are collectors out there because I want to get rid of them (indeed, I can't go anywhere near them because I have a fur allergy)

I know the flea markets in NYC had a woman that specialised in furs that sold for alot. I think you can sell nice ones for a good price, you just need to find the right place and customers.

Have you discussed this with the person who evaluated the furs for you? As someone in the business, he may be able to point you to some sources or may have clients that would be interested in what you have to offer.

I recently inherited several furs from my mother and am in the same boat as you. My wife will wear the mink cape, but unfortunately, suitable opportunities to do so are few and far between. The fur specialist we worked with also led us to believe that the market for furs in general was quite limited...for used furs, even less so. Good luck.

There is also an unfortunate backlash against fur in the US from the more extreme groups.
