If you could take only one hat

For cold climates, I would typically take one felt fedora and a couple of wool caps tucked in my case. Warmer climates, a roll up Panama, a couple of cotton caps in the case, and on my head, more often than not, my trusty safari-ised Akubra Riverina. I've worn it in places I'd ideally have taken straw, and it's the perfect all-rounder for wearing with a linen suit, with casual wear, sun and rain. I have half a mind to buy another, similar Akubra in a grey so that I have something that matches a little better with blacks.

One of my Akubras, definitely a lighter color felt. When the temp rises, I take out the liner. Plus they're easy to replace (who knows what's going to happen?) :).

I may be biased, though, as I'm a big Akubra fan and all of my hats have been Akubras from the start (early this summer).

If it truly was just one hat for all purposes, I'd take my Akubra Lawson in Loden. (chocolate brown)

I brought one felt with me to the Bahamas this year, a Borsalino Alesandria, and one straw. my Sunbody go anywhere do anything beach/mowing hat. It will serve me well to keep the sun off my head while I'm relaxing on the beach and the Borso makes a fantastic casual, go with anything lid for the evenings.

Well, I will be making use of this concept this weekend! I was just hired for a five day reporting gig in Houston, Texas.

So, I will be taking this Open Road in Silberbelly:

I've got a diamond bash with a little back pinch in her.

Oh, and yes I'll shave before I leave!

A broad-brimmed ladies' hat be dressed down for the beach or up with a ribbon and pin very quickly. It can even go fairly formal with the right ribbon and a brooch.

I think straw might edge out felt, but just barely. Best in gray, if its felt.
